Bulletin - California deal expands Mashantuckets' empire

This casino will cost $300 million and will be located near San Diego...

PAUMA BAND OF MISSION INDIANS

- Pauma land is 5,800 acres divided in four parcels.

- The Paumas growHass avocados, Valencia oranges and lemons on 60 acres of their land.

- The Paumas openedCasino Pauma in 2001, a 65,000-square-foot temporary casino.

The Mashantuckets also are working on casino and resort projects in Kansas, Mississippi and Pennsylvania totaling $1.493 billion. And the tribe has plans for a resort in the Virgin Islands, though a cost estimate is not known.

On top of that, Foxwoods is undergoing a $700 million expansion that will add 2 million square feet to the 4.7-million-square-foot resort.

The Paumas have operated the Casino Pauma, a 65,000 square foot facility with 1,050 slot machines and 24 table games, since 2001. The new casino would have 2,000 slots and 50 table games, along with a 500-room hotel, restaurants, an entertainment venue and retail options.

The Mashantuckets are certainly doing it big for themselves these days. Good for them.

Plus they are now a major corporation Headquartered in CT, sort of. Not really sure how the tribal stuff works.

Last time I knew, their tribal offices were located in North Stonington...

OK, so there's you National HQ for a multibillion dollar national company. That's a great thing economically speaking. Imagine having multiple gaming and entertainment companies being headquartered in SE CT. Now that is good for the economy. Anyway you slice it.
