NBC Nightside News

I lived in Fairfax, VA in 1992. I recall a light night news show (2 AM to 6 AM) that broadcast from Charlotte that was NBC based. They use to show the Charlotte skyline quite frequently. I think it was called NBC Nightside?

Yes it was operated in a joint studio with Channel 36, WCNC, the local NBC affilliate. It was quite interesting as they would often use the Charlotte skyline as a backdrop for the show. It went off the air in the late 90s. For some of the channel 36 anchors it as a pretty good deal as it got them national airplay, albiet one for insomniacs.

I'm pretty sure I remember reading that they canceled it because NBC thought they'd get better ratings by showing reruns of the Tonight Show with Jay Leno and Late Night with Conan O' Brien.
