"Katrina Cottages" on the way...

More "Katrina Cottages" are on the way to the Coast. Ocean Springs is encouraging the relpacement of FEMA trailer parks with more permanent "Katrina Cottages", small but efficient modular houses which can be built for $35-40,000. This may well be the answer for the Coast's short-term housing solution. A $400 m grant may also help speed things along.

I love the potential of these for disaster relief and affordable housing in general. Unlike FEMA trailers, they can be designed to fit in with the traditional architecture of an area. Although small, they can be used permanently or be designed for expansion. I hope that grant comes through.
