MEM Air Cargo Expansion

Here's a slide show with the plans for a new air cargo facility at Memphis International Airport, called "Cargo Central" -

http://www.memphisairport.org/MEM_CargoBrochure_v5.pdf

This will be located off of Swinnea Rd. on the east side of the airport, just to the north of the new TN Air National Guard base under construction. I presume that it will eventually replace the air cargo facilities located north of the passenger terminal. (Maybe that would free up space for the concourse expansion idea put forth by jmduke on another thread?)

An ad in the latest edition of Air Cargo World indicates that the first phase Cargo Central's aircraft parking ramp will be completed in December of this year, and the Phase 1 building, at 36,000 sqft, will open next June. I had no idea this new cargo facility was moving along as quickly.

I remember seeing the land cleared for this a few years ago when I went to the airport to take pics of a FedEx plane that had crashed.

I think it's the new TANG facilities and more cargo areas. I know that the cargo facilities by concourse C (where DHL, Kitty Hawk, etc. park) is moving in that direction as well.

You're right. The TANG facility will be ready in 2008. The new cargo ramp is to the immediate north of TANG. They are also constructing a new fire station over there.
