What type of importance are we talking about? I would think economical, but there are many other types of "importantance" you could use; historical, cultural, etc.

Hello Nate. I'm talking about economy and government. Cities that are the major players here in America.

Guys be careful with this list, don't let it turn into a city vs. city thing. These types of threads have had a tendency of not ending well lately.

Hey, thanks for the warning. It's not my intention to start a city vs. city type of thing. I just wanted everyone's opinion.

I think the politics for DC puts it slightly above Chicago. Emphasis on slightly. Boston for history and education. Bay Area is the 2nd powerhouse on the westcoast and in a state that has a larger GDP than nearly every nation in the world. Houston is the biggest city in a state that also has a larget GDP than nearly every nation in the world and it's medical, energy, and oil economies puts it slightly above Philadelphia and just a tad bit under San Francisco.
