Nashville International Airport Development thread

The article mentions that “Metro Nashville Airport Authority is considering bids from companies to demolish and redevelop the six-story, 315,000-square-foot building.” It is currently too expensive to maintain.

It seems like the smaller Genesco building is outside of the runway extension territory and will be redeveloped. Although the larger building beside it looks to be just inside the demo zone.

The larger U shaped building in that map is mostly used by Metro, with several departments having office space and the garages being used by metro fleet management. The smaller rectangular one is the actual Genesco building that was being referenced earlier in this thread, which has been unoccupied for several years.

Fascinating that they're considering such major runway lengthening projects. I suppose it makes sense if they intend to host more long haul flights, especially if they want to try to score a direct flight to east Asia. Right now, 13/31 is the only runway capable of handling the largest, most heavily laden aircraft, and when it's in operation none of the parallel runways can be used, so at the very least it offers flexibility in the short term, with better options in the long term for dual runway operations.

This would involve some pretty substantial road reroutes, too. And it's funny that they mislabeled Knight Valley Dr as McGavock Pk.

How can these resident be so stupid!

Are proposals in the works to expand the Nashville airport? Here's what we know. (newschannel5.com)

Who do they think their landlord is? The Metro Airport Authority owns around 180 properties of the 200 involved and they have been buying up properties for years. If the residents say they are blindsided, it comes as no shock to those of us on this board for sure. We have known about this for years.

The current landowners have known what is going on.

Which will they expand first?

Not sure, I've not seen anything stating which would come first. If I'm not mistaken, 2L/20R was only recently refurbished, so it would make sense they would concentrate on 2R/20L first. I would also imagine extending 2R/20L would be cheaper, as they won't have to tunnel any major roads...would also be more palatable politically as it won't involve any housing demolition. This is all pure speculation though. There are plenty of good reasons to extend 2L/20R first, mainly that they could primarily use 2R/20L instead of 2C/20C during the construction of 2L/20R, what with the center runway's proximity to the major construction on 2L/20R.

To be fair, I doubt they are writing rent checks to MNAA every month. There is more than likely a management company that serve as the "landlord" for all intents and purposes. They may not have to disclose future plans until they choose not to offer a lease renewal or give month to month tenants the required legal notice to vacate.
