Hello, my name Sean. I’m deaf.  I enjoy to read on Unbanplanet. I will post more pics later.  British Airways Dreamliner Boeing 787-9 landed last Sunday evening.  ( 2/L  7,704 feet long runway)

A little more on the information released last night and this morning. This is not a proposal at this time, just sort of a very preliminary plan from the airport picked up on at a meeting last night. There is not a formal proposal yet per the BNA authority after a contact this morning, however it is noteworthy and newsworthy they are thinking ahead. 

We do not know what then plan will look like yet and nothing has been approved so we cant even give this proposed status, not to get everyone's hopes up.

Still, this is great news and I am happy they are thinking ahead for the future. The growth at BNA is astonishing for a city of Nashville's size and by 2030 BNA will have well over 20 million passengers. This expansion is needed and I am finally feeling satisfied lol

After the current airport expansion, BNA could see $4 billion in capital expansion over the next decade.  

Key points: 

1. $164M capital budget for current FY. It was $40M just three years ago. Next FY it will be $220M

2. Expected to have 22 million passengers by 2030

3. They intend to expand their attractiveness as a gateway for international airlines. Mum on what those airlines would be.

First, consider the following:

1) The airport thinks it has 3 parallel runways. The crosswind 13/31 is a "nice to have" but all aircraft operations will be directed to the parallel runways in the future and 13/31 will be phased out (dear Tony, bring back big Sig!)

2) In the future, a new terminal will be required; but, the location has not been determined. Thus it would be a poor decision to expand 2R/20L, at this time, because it is likely to be relocated

3) Although it is impossible to to have simultaneous landings/takeoffs from 2C, it does allow for simultaneous aircraft operations (ex. 2C takeoff while a 2L is on final approach)

Next, consider the Terminal beyond BNA Vision:

Concourse A will be essentially rebuilt to add additional gates; but, more importantly, will be designed to accommodate Class V aircraft (777, etc) and have full width double lanes between A and B to allow simultaneous entry/exit from the terminal gates area for large aircraft. Large planes will, of course, be accommodated at the International T gates, while Concourses C and D will always be dedicated to smaller aircraft (737 and smaller) due to space constraints. **The location of the Central Utility Plant is terminus of the cooling pipes leading to the old quarry pit

With that said, all large aircraft (international or domestic) will be utilizing the A/B side of the airport. Landing large aircraft on 2R going to the T gates or A/B would require a long taxi. This is a "no" for daily international flights

Now, here is the 2L/20R extension:

1) 11 property acquisitions are required or the entire project is off

2) The Genesco building will remain. The 2 one-story buildings (MNPD, etc) would have to be "trimmed back" and new egress to the property established

3) Mcgavock Pike, 99.9% chance bye-bye

4) Murfreesboro Rd tunnel extension is a challenge

Conclusion: the 2L/20R extension has been in the planning for 40+ years, requires the least property acquisition, and is on the "correct" side of terminal

Kind of unrelated to your question, but I'm guessing Sean might be foreign and works in the airline biz. This is by no means a jab at our new poster, but I do notice his English is rather broken in some of his posts, which leads me to that assumption that he may not be a native speaker.

Should the TN Air National Guard move their location to Smyrna and give up that space at Berry Field (in the future) for future expansions?  Not sure if Smyrna has the available space or not...but is probably the best alternate location in Middle TN.

Well, I wish to work in the airline. But, I has job, not far about 1/2 mile from BNA.  I just enjoy to watch airline and look around downtown Nashville. I’m deaf. Can’t speak. Only sign language.  :thumbsup:
