Storm at BNA.  I check on Flightsradar24.  14 airlines  was diverted to other airports.

I love listening to the airport's Arrivals and Departure channel and watching FlightRadar when storms roll through. There were a couple places diverted last night, but several this afternoon and evening.  I saw planes divert to HSV, BHM, MEM, LEX, SDF, TYS, and EVV today.

On the way out of town again. Portions of the ticket lobby are now boarded up for continuing construction. If it was this way last time I flew, I did not notice. Photo is of the progress on the D concourse taken from gate C-4.

 Flights get diverted all the time.  Could be a mechanical issue, or medical  emergency.  Flights on other routes routinely land at BNA when diverted.  So why is this newsworthy or relevant?

I guess our next airline will be Cape Air. Owensboro, KY recently told Cape Air that they will be retained for EAS (Essential Air Service), but they must add BNA as a destination

This is the thing I have been talking about for years. BNA needs a 'Cape Air' to bring in folks from from places like Owensboro/Evansville, Dyersburg, Bristol, etc. One of the most important things mentioned in this article is the ability to only go through security once. Providers for ORD and ATL require going through security twice - not good for connections

BNA SETS RECORD PASSENGER GROWTH IN FY 2019

With the books now closed on Fiscal Year 2019, Nashville International Airport (BNA) today announced "Five Firsts":

• Topped 17 million total annual passengers
• Increased passengers in a single year by more than 2 million
• Increased annual passengers by 15 percent
• Set passenger records for the sixth consecutive year
• Set monthly passenger total record for June

More specifically, in FY19 (July 1, 2018 to June 30, 2019), 17,171,821 passengers traveled into and out of BNA, an increase of more than 2.2 million passengers over last year's record, and representing an unprecedented 15 percent rate of annual growth. 
 

June 2019 set a record as the single busiest month in BNA history, with 1,676,386 passengers, some 13,000 more than the previous record set in May 2019.

October 2018 was the first time BNA topped 1.5 million monthly passengers. That has happened 4x this year

These numbers are even more impressive when you think that this happened with most airlines unable to expand due to the Max grounding.

I think BNA will eclipse 18,000,000 this calendar year after seeing these fiscal year numbers.  Very impressive!  Those additional gates from BNA vision can't come fast enough.  Also, the expansion of A is very much needed.

If, IF, the monthly airport numbers continue to increase by ~15% over last year, then July-December (6 months) would net 9,740,075 passengers, with a new monthly high (October) of 1,769,249.

That would bring the calendar year total to 18,442,266.

 

As it stands now, if you were to plug in last year's numbers, BNA has to get +828,179 over 6 months to reach 18 million. That's +138,030 per month. The last 4 months have averaged +214,426.

**Yes, but you must remember, when it left BNA, it only carried enough fuel to get to ATL. Nowhere near fully loaded, weight wise

This is actually somewhat common for those long haul flights to be diverted to BNA

The only thing that matters is that we can say we sometimes have non-stops between us and Tokyo.   If the passengers refuse to get off in Nashville, that's their tough luck.

We're within spitting distance. Through May of 2019 PDX had a total of 7,544,230 while BNA had 7,025,805, which is a 6.9% difference.   PDX has grown 1.2% for the first five months of 2019 when compared to the first five months of 2018.  That compares to BNA growing at ~15.5% during that same time frame. If the same growth patterns continue (which is a big question) then BNA will overtake PDX in 2020.
