Nashville International Airport Development thread

I don't know about most people, but I'm still a bit hesitant to fly due to the whole, ya know, being locked inside a sealed metal tube in the sky and sharing the same air with one hundred other people, thing, and I'll be that a lot of Nashville's would-be air travelers feel the same way.  I'd bet though that the number of tourists who 'fly' here by car has remained relatively stable.

Personally, I'd rather be in an airplane knowing how the air is filtered & changed out/cycled in/out of the plane itself throughout even a short flight.

Today this morning  from Facebook BNA. 
As shared a few days back: The 439-foot crane that will build BNA's new roof canopy is arriving in pieces this week! The crane tracks, car body and counterweights are here, and more components are on the way. We anticipate having it upright in mid-October. #GoingUp #BNAVision

 

PLUS: The first steel columns that will support the roof canopy are here, too. Pictured: One of the columns being offloaded from the truck. 

That's the medium-sized crane that will build the much larger crane, which will then build the roof canopy. #BiggerBetterBNA #BNAVision

BNA said, At its highest point, the canopy will stand 105 feet off of Level 1 of Terminal Drive, making it taller than the guitar pick elevator lobby canopy on Terminal Garage 2 (91 feet high).

Update. 
 

Crane assembly continues! The 439-foot Demag CC 8800 shown at right in the first photo, which will build our new roof canopy, goes upright next week. It looks small here now, but it will be almost as tall as the Bridgestone Tower in downtown Nashville! 

FUN FACTS:

The 439-foot Demag CC 8800 crane is arriving in pieces in 70+ truckloads through early next week. (One truckload contained nothing but bolts—lots of bolts!) 

If lined up end to end, the trucks would take up 75% of Runway 2R/20L (the runway alongside Donelson Pike), which is 8,000 feet long. 

The new, wavy roof canopy Hensel Phelps will build at BNA will be 695 feet long. That’s longer than two football fields! It will be 224 feet wide, 3/4 the width of a football field. #BNAVision #BiggerBetterBNA #GoingUp

From NBJ: The airport has chosen Chartwell Hospitality as their intended partner for the terminal hotel.  The choice will not be official until Metro Nashville Airport Authority votes on the recommendation Oct. 21st.

Developer: Chartwell Hospitality
Architect: Raven(sp?) Architects
GC: McMurray Construction
9 story
Hilton branded hotel
292 rooms (6 will be suites)
rooftop pool and bar with airfield views

Contract to awarded in November, but construction cannot begin until the canopy is in place for the new lobby. But, I think, construction will begin late 2021 with expected completion of December 2023. That time line is very fuzzy right now, so don't hold me to it
