NY Times/Biz Journal article on the state of the "Big 4" airlines. BNA continues to benefit from American AIrlines' dehubbing Nashville.  They even added a flight from BNA to Phoenix.  Delta and Southwest look very strong... United a bit less strong.  Looks like American Airlines is on rocky ground. Of course, that's not news, but scuttlebutt is they're going to have to decommission a hub if they can't refinance their debt and/or get a federal bailout.  They have already announced layoffs, but they'll try to keep on with their footprint for the time being.   I never thought they'd have this kind of problem despite my disdain for them. Kept me and my family waiting at a gate (pushed back, of course) for five hours at DFW when we went to London several years ago. I vowed I'd never fly them again. Out of Chattanooga, it's a little difficult, but will fly Delta... United out of here if I can... or I'll drive to ATL or BNA before I have to fly on AA.

American was positioning themselves to take on some point-to-point (P2P) routes from certain cities, see Austin & Seattle for example, and was in the process of starting for Nashville back at corporate in Fort Worth, and then COVID dropped in on the party.

Who knows how things will shake out, but I think BNA will be well-positioned once tourism bounces back, particularly in the domestic market, to grow further. American made clear moves by upgauging aircraft sizes & also getting mainline ramp back in versus Envoy-run ramp. Airlines don't place mainline ground ops without investment or intentions to just sit around.

Monday night or Yesterday early morning. 
Wake up Nashville! While you were sleeping the engineering team of ⁦@HenselPhelps and @Fly_Nashville placed the first of many girders required to support the new roof. Thanks to our monster crane, we safely placed a 233,000 pound girder. BNA Vision continues 24/7.

The central ticketing lobby will be closed for construction starting Dec. 16th thru early 2023 for construction of the major new interior open space that will include a larger entrance hall, an expanded security checkpoint with 24 lanes, an international arrivals facility with six gates and a new marketplace just beyond the security checkpoint.

As previously revealed, the airport will operate out of two terminals. North Terminal includes gates A and B, and South Terminal includes gates C and D. Beginning December 16, passengers will not be able to move between terminals once inside the airport.

Saturday night, Monday morning the engineering team at ⁦@Fly_Nashville⁩ and ⁦@HenselPhelps⁩ successfully placed a 339,000 pound steel truss for the new roof at BNA. Looking good.

ANOTHER LOOK: These photos give a sense of how much higher the terminal's roof line will be compared to today. 

The completed canopy will feature a covered pedestrian bridge over Terminal Drive, which will connect the terminal to the parking garage, pedestrian plaza and future hotel.

It appears that most of the concrete is laid on the improved eastern runway; the massive girders for the enlarged lobby now extend over the old ticketing lobby.

With a growing fleet, one can only speculate if Amazon will build out a hub like the UPS one in Louisville or the FedEx one in Memphis.   Not sure if Nashville has the space for that kind of build out.

I think this was discussed and the thoughts were Smyrna could be a good location for that, however, BNA could certainly handle the added traffic easily.

I do think Middle TN would be the logical choice in order to compete with UPS & Fed Ex noting the locations of their transit hubs. Those were not chosen to be in the center of the country by chance.

I thought Amazon had already announced Cincinnati as their hub 2-3 years ago. If that is correct, I could see them having operations here, but I can’t imagine they would have anything resembling a hub operation anywhere in the regional vicinity of Cincinnati.

Yeah, Cincinnati/northern Kentucky (CVG) is the largest Amazon hub, along with DHL's hub there as well. Amazon has a focus operation nearby in Wilmington, OH as well.
