Strip District masterplan

That was spawned by a national competition of architecture students hosted by the Urban Land Institute 2 years ago. It concentrates on that devastatingly desolate sea of parking lots on the downtown side of Smallman. Could you imagine how vibrant and amazing the Strip would be if we could build some good stuff on those horrible parking lots? Currently... despite its proximity to downtown... the Strip has frayed linkages to downtown...

I'd also like to see the demolition of the Buncher Bunkers on Liberty... that is such a depressing strip in the Strip.

Buncher owns most of it. They sure are slow on the draw with all their money. I wish they would get some innovative thinkers over there. Instead we're getting a uninspired Hampton Inn on 12th Street.

I would think it would be embarrassing for Buncher that the Urban Land Institute would target a huge parcel of land owned exclusively by Buncher for a national urban design competition.

Maybe O'Connor can put some pressure on Buncher to actually do something with the precious land they're currently squandering.

What pressure could the mayor put on a land owner to develop it?
