Looking west from 27th floor of The Westin Hotel at Gulch and Midtown massing.  The W Hotel at 16 stories will make a statement in the middle left of this frame when finished in 2019.

That's amazing. Palmer plaza is getting lost in the midtown skyline, now.

Is it large enough for a substantial structure?

I suppose it depends on whether that white building behind it could be bought, demolished, and included in the area. But I can't remember what that building is, though.

A fifty story skinny apartment tower would fit nicely. As for SunTrust across the street, that should've been 20-25 stories taller. Way too short for that location. <_<

I agree about suntrust. I guess at the time they built it (wasn't it around the recession?) land prices didn't really demand building too high in the CBD.

Looking north from above Broadway.  Someday perhaps the phone company will get rid of that red brick block monstrosity on 2nd Ave. North and a really cool 10 story boutique hotel can replace it. (courtesy of Annette Dillinger):

Does anyone know why the glass panels were removed from the bottom of the slanted roof on the Batman building?

If you think it's a monster now, you should've seen it in all its garish yellow-bricked glory until the 1990s.

They were not removed, it has always been like that, since the day it was built

Let's hope not! That red brick monstrosity is the most important building in Middle Tennessee. We would not have this site (UP) without it!! :)
