This is an insanely busy intersection nowadays. That pic in 2015 must have been taken at a really weird time of day. Or maybe the Bridgestone construction was keeping people away.

Right... it may look "less busy" now, but at that intersection, instead of one-story "nothing burgers," we now have the North American headquarters of a major international corporation, a museum serving as a major tourist draw, a stunningly beautiful classical building with a world-class symphony, and one block away, a conference center that has completely revitalized that part of the city.

Nothing depressing that I can find.......

I put this chart together using my spreadsheet of all buildings in Nashville, existing, rising, or proposed, 200' tall or higher. I may have left one or two out and I tried to estimate the heights of some the best I could, but the result is still mind blowing. Feel free to comment and correct. For example, the NCI Condo is now 550' (as we all know, things change hourly).

The reflection of the MCC looks pretty cool, did a double take thinking they added some sort of design to it.

Can we make it a requirement that whenever ESPN, CBS, Fox, NHL Network, or NBC Sports shows a Nashville panorama, they use the attached viewpoint, and not the angle from 1st Ave, which makes downtown Nashville look like it is 3 buildings?

I've wondered why the city doesn't send all the networks some digital and video images to use on their green screen interviews that are better than always having Parkway Towers always in the background.

At some point, probably in the 50's, this was proposed for the site. I don't know much else about it.

I believe that proposed revamp of the old main Post Office was from the 1980s.

I found a Nashville Scene article about projects NOT built. Here is the information they share about the renovation proposal for the building that is now Frist Center for the Visual Arts.

“Growing the Downtown Post Office, Tuck Hinton Everton Architects, 1989

The state Capitol wasn’t the only government building to get the tower treatment. Developer Pat Emery commissioned this scheme for the post office after the main distribution center for the postal service moved from Broadway to an industrial park near the airport in 1987. The next year the postal service advertised for redevelopment proposals which retained a small post office on the main floor and surrendered the rest to private office use.

The Tuck Hinton Everton drawing shows a 19-story office tower looming over the 1934 post office and dwarfing the tower of Union Station. The use of the original style for the much more massive “addition”—a theoretically admirable gesture of historical respect—illustrates how the 1930s style of “stripped classicism,” when inflated to these proportions, could result in an effect führer architect Albert Speer might have admired.”
