As you drive from downtown out I-40 to that location it's easy to ignore how close it is to downtown if you just take the more direct (except for having to go around TSU) Jefferson Street/Centennial Blvd route.  

No its empty - the developers who are developing the Silo apartments/cottages around it said that it was to expensive to tear down.  Apparently its wall are crazy thick, like ~3 foot thick concrete walls and it had to be imploded and not just knocked over.

Man... Nashville of the late 70's and 80's was intent on just levelling downtown, wasn't it? Even if that picture is a little non-representative, that's the reality of the imagined past so many people want to take Nashville back to. Dirty, run down buildings and parking lot wastelands.
