Division Street Connector is well under way.

Looking eastward from Myers Carpet property across the CSX tracks.  The route has had to take a slightly more southern dog-leg to go around Tennessee Brew Works (white building in lower left corner) which has refused to move.  The business opened not long after the whole design was set in motion.  Was easier to work around it than to deal with all the legal hassles.

Looking from the current dead-end of Division Street back the the west into the Gulch. I spoke with the foreman on the project and he said they were unaware that there might be a 23-story condo tower (the proposed Crescendo) going on the Myers Carpet lot (to the immediate left in this shot).  He said if that was the case, then the 8" sewage pipe (turquoise sections shown here) they are currently laying to serve the top of this hill will be outdated immediately. He said they would probably need 12" or 16" pipe if that were the case, or they would have some back-up issues.   He was going to ask the folks above him about changing.

Looking westward from the corner of Ash (soon to be renamed Division) and Fifth Avenue.  The parking lot just to the left of the Greyhound Bus Station is the section that is going to become part of the much wider extended street.

Typical result of a nearly a quarter century (actually longer) of Metro inaction and absence of any genuinely coordinated design and planning.  Even when Greyhound got evicted from its 8th Ave location, Metro then had sufficient insightful resources to know of imminent issues with acquiring land for this connector.  The Brew Works is only one of many other cases, though no fault of theirs.

That article that PHofKS posted yesterday of Austin and I-35 points to the related matter (on a state level) with respect to contractors and developers.  Unlike back in the '60s and '70s when pre-emption by eminent domain was the vogue, fierce challenges against the establishment always are expected with any kind of surface displacement, such as with this connector.  The very same issue is becoming (has become) yet more unmanageable at this point in Green Hills, if Metro ever commences to pursue its approved plan of transportation for that area, given the furor of activity there with both new and re-development and infill.

[with apologies to wreynol4, this is not a reply to his post, but my ipad won't let me remove it and type a "clean" reply]

Actually a reply to markhollin's post to say good work on the Division connector photos.   Nice of the foreman to let you walk through the construction site.    If the crew was not aware of the potential Crescendo development, I'm sure they're equally unaware of the Preston proposal this week.     8" lines are not going to cut it there either.    With SoBro booming in every direction, why would Metro not build in water and sewer infrastructure with an eye toward future growth?
