Looking at that photo really reminds me how terribly designed TPAC is. Built in the era when facilities or skyscrapers wished to hide from the street, it is so thoroughly ugly and brutalist on the exterior. It resembles a sarcophagus without the charm.  I think it could do with a complete exterior overhaul. Because of the shape of the structure, I think it could be creatively outfitted in a classic neo-Second Empire design with the top section boasting a mansard roof refit.

I generally appreciate Brutalist structures for what they offer, at least in an architectural/historic sense. When a budget during that era wasn't stretched thin, the outcome for many wasn't bad. That obviously wasn't the case with TPAC, though.

You redesign comment from Brutalism to something else is exactly the though process that produced the Post-Modern style (along with a dislike of the modern/international style). It made me laugh, especially after the 1940's, Art Deco comment.

SoBro "building  boom" pic from Newschannel 5 Skycam. Such a transformation since the Country Music Hall of Fame moved into the neighborhood. It looked so lonely and isolated for a few years...lots of good neighbors now!

Thanks for the pic, donNdonelson2. This shows the incredible changes in SoBro in the last 21 years. Not a single building the foreground existed before that. Including those in distance, there are 17 new structures. And, just within this view, there should be be about 15 more within the next three years. And....there are still 6 absolutely prime surface lots in this panorama that are just crying out for major developments.
