By the cars on the bottom, I am guessing 1968-1971. By 1974, the First American Tower would be partly visible at the top left. The L&C is on fourth and the FAC is on third behind the L&C.

BR86

If you are talking about the 3 postcard group, the First American Tower would not be in view in any of them. I never noticed the view shed (?) from the capital down to the Municipal Auditorium, that's kind of nice. The L&C was prior to the old, old Third National Bank building (NW corner of 4th and Church, site of the Maxwell House Hotel). I remember the transit area between the Andrew Jackson / Hermitage / War Memorial.

A panorama of the downtown and West End skyline from the Nevada Heights area just off Charlotte Pike (actually it was on the hill on the north side). My photography leaves a lot to be desired, but it shows the extent of Nashville's 40 block-long skyline when viewed from the proper angle.

Yup, great shots!! Need some taller buildings to connect the skyline more. You can barely see the Gulch, but it still looks very nice! I wonder if the Omni hotel will show up or if it will be lined up with the Pinnacle?

Not from this angle. I can't even see Encore, and Omni will only be 20' taller. We definitely need a few connected dots, there.

Yeah, real tall buildings and Nashville don't mix too well. I guess the Pinnacle sits on a nice hill from that angle.

Anyways, I've been in the Vanderbilt area the past couple of days and took some pictures today. I am planning to take pictures around Nashville if I can since I will be in town for a couple of more weekssmile.gif.

Yes, Nashville is very fortunate. The area could use a little work, like moving power lines to underground, but otherwise it is a pretty special place in Nashville. The 21st Ave corridor is ripe for a street car or light rail!wink.gif

Some more pictures.

More crane pictures in the Nashville Picture thread.

Noticed today, I've been gone a few days this week, that another crane is up near the children's hospital. It has a blue base with a white boom. It isn't like the other crane, but one with the long horizontal boom. Not sure of the terminology. Let me google. Alright this is what I found. Both are tower cranes. The one with the long horizontal boom is called a hammer head tower crane while the other with the canted boom is called a luffing jibb crane.

Also, I've seen one over the past week, week and a half I've been in town over at Belmont. Today I saw another one. They are also both luffing jib cranes. Not sure if the are mobile or towers though.

Belmont cranes.

Ok, I have some more pictures!! This second set I was driving around snapping photos in the Vandy, 21st Ave, West End area. I realized that snapping photos from the car is less satisfying and the pictures don't always look too great. I really enjoyed walking around and taking pictures because I felt like I could enjoy more and take in more things. Unfortunately, I was not able to get around to all the places I wanted. I will try to get more the next time I am in town. I also apologize for the not so great photos. I am going to get a better camera one day and retake these pictures cause my point and shoot really sucks. It auto focuses on random objects and seems to blur the edges in some of the photos. It is a weird camera. Can't wait to get one with a lens. I mainly was able to only get the Vandy area and Belmont on this trip. Oh, I also tend to take a bajillion pictures. I like to get various perspectives so sorry if there are so many!!

Children's hospital Doctor's Office Tower renovation/expansion. The floor was already built, I just think they haven't finished the floor for future expansion. Oh and notice all the power lines. THey are everywhere unfortunately.

Found this bit interesting from the link posted below.

"As for the future of downtown development, you’ll think I’m off my rocker, but there will be 5 new buildings under construction within the next 12 months. 2 will be high-rise towers and 3 will be mid-rise buildings. I’d love to tell you which ones, but the only project I am allowed to divulge is the old Polar Ice site in the Gulch which will become eleven North, a 302 unit apartment building."

A couple of things of note:

New dorm @ Belmont going up along with the Law school there.

New hotel on Division in Midtown is under construction as well.

University school to make addition on 21st Ave. Dean @ the forum meet brought this to our attention.

I am sure there will be more on the way. I don't get out to do a lot of research because I work all the time.

Oh yea. New tower crane in Franklin just off Caruthers and 65
