I wish HGTV would use a similar shot of downtown Nashville when they feature some of the episodes of House Hunters, Property Brothers and the house flip shows they air from Nashville.  I'm tired of the most overused shot of the batman building as the primary building they show.

Can't wait to see Nashville Yards in future shots like this.

The 5th and Broadway office tower will fill in a hole from this angle as well.

If Buckingham would build their Gulch tower, these 'Nashville skyline' shots could expand.  A brief, panoramic scan would be needed!

All the posts recently of the NFL stage, Chattanooga riverfront and this photo reminded me of an idea I had over 10 years ago.  The Gay Street connector was built where there used to be 3 to 5 story  Victorian buildings which existed when 1st Avenue  was uninterrupted at the square.  This happened when the old steel truss Woodland Street bridge was joined by the Victory memorial bridge next to it.  The new Gay Street has not been very successful IMO.  The ampitheatre was built too steep and never used very much other than a sleeping platform for homeless, the same is true under the bridge spans.  If you have ever looked closely down the riverbank, there is so much garbage that it looks like a vertical landfill; it is a toilet-in-the-trees location too.  It is a blight on our cityscape.     I once climbed down to the river at the Demonbruen statue  and was surprised that the sheer rock wall there was almost a 60 foot cliff.  It would be an interesting location for a rock climbing wall where folks in nearby offices could have a lunchtime climb.  At any rate, the whole bank needs a major cleanup.  Perhaps a competition for the bank uses might produce some innovative uses.    On a related note, the east bank across from this is having some severe erosion and collapse. About a 10 foot wide swath 100 feet or so collapsed into the river last year taking some big trees with it.   I'm surprised some homeless tenting right at the edge haven't gone into the river (maybe they did but who would ever know?)    There is a no man's land between the bridges as well.  Do we really need the rail spur down to Shelby bridge any more?

The photos below show some of 1st Avenue in which the old Victorian buildings can be seen.  Notice the double trusses of the Woodland Street bridge.   I think this photo dates from the mid 50s.  The aerial from the 40s?

Good guess! I think the crane must be there for some other purpose, though.

I spent several years in live audio and event production and  have seen that those structures have little motors built into them. The roof can actually climb itself up those vertical trusses and be raised and lowered as needed, without a crane or any other external assistance.

Yeah...you're right!  I didn't think about that.  I've seen those before.
