OK….a crazy, crazy idea I have that may be 100% un-doable…but I’m gonna throw it out there.

How hard would it be for us to raise funds to buy a few of our own Urban Planet solar-powered cameras and have them installed around downtown in areas where construction is happening at the moment?  Something that’s easily placed on top of buildings…and easily taken off and placed somewhere else, when needed?

Is that crazy?

That is incredible... if you took everything to the right of Batman in that shot, all of which has been built just since 2008, that portion of the skyline by itself would rival if not surpass cities like Louisville and Birmingham in terms of size and height.

It would be interesting in, say, five years from now when most if not all of those proposals are hopefully built, to take a couple shots from that same angle, one to the left of but not including Snodgrass, and one to the right of but not including Batman, and see how many non-Nashvillians were able to identify the city.

SoBro as it sits now surpasses downtown Birmingham today.  Birmingham has 6 buildings over 300', 12 over 250' and 454' is her tallest.

To be clear, SoBro surpasses Birmingham's downtown epicenter in terms of tall new buildings. So, and specificially as seen from a "long-view" distance, the edge goes to SoBro. But if you consider beautiful old buildings of eight floors or taller (as seen from a moderate distance or up-close) and the fine-grained, pedestrian fabric of the heart of the Ham (in other words, what we would experience walking through or driving through that area of the city) ... BHam buries SoBro and, for that matter, might barely edge the entirety of downtown Nashville. It's all relative.

That's probably more like 1970 judging from the buildings that were completed and the ones that weren't. I believe Snodgrass was around 1970, that building behind the Capitol at around the same time. ServiceSource was built in 1967 as Third National. And the Parkway Towers sometime in the late 1960s. Soon after 1971, the UBS building was begun as the First American bank building.
