I saw the recent post MLBrumby made with the old pics, and  I wanted to create an account and say thanks. The top picture at West End and Natchez (Colony Cleaners) was my grandfathers business. I remember going there as a kid and riding the conveyor belt. They eventually moved to where Starbucks in Green Hills is now. I wish they still owned the land. :tw_cold_sweat:

I've been reading this forum probably ever since it came on line, and enjoy everyone's posts. I probably can't offer much more than "I like that", or "that's ugly", but I'll keep looking.

Welcome College_groove!!  Glad to have you. I always enjoy stories from longtime Nashvillians.

^^Nice 1880’s drone shot. :tw_glasses:

I'm picturing about a thousand men in those shirts with black horizontal stripes and twirly mustaches standing on each others' shoulders to get that shot, Barnum and Bailey style!

Thank you @markhollin for posting that map by the way.  I could look at that all day long!  Is the large blue industrial building in Germantown (#70 listed as the TN manufacturing co.) part of the Werthan Mills residential development, or was Werthan Mills a different building altogether?

You're welcome.  Yes, I believe that is Werthan Mills in G-Town.  Also fascinating to see that there was a lot of industrial (including a half round house train switching station) just to the east of Ft. Negley in the area where May Hosiery/Nashville Warehouse Company is now.  Also, all the factories along the CSX train lines from Marathon Village westward.  And the large concentration of mills on the East Bank.

If you're able to expand the shot, the key at the bottom helps explain what a lot of the larger businesses, schools, etc. are.

I've got this one hanging in my office at home

I've got a Nashville map reprint from 1908 hanging in my office. Cost me about $20 online. They really make great art pieces for anyone interested in Nashville history.

Nashville pre-PSC Metals

Nashville pre-interstate

I love that building sitting atop a little niche on the bluff just below the School for the Blind in the lower left. Excellent use of available real estate!
