I was in Nashville visiting my mom for Mother's Day weekend and I just want to say, reading all the posts about Nashville development doesn't really hit you the same way as seeing it in person.  My last visit was in September of 2019.  This visit left me stunned.  I wish I could have taken pictures but it's difficult to do when you're driving and others are in the car with you.  We drove around several areas of town and at times I didn't know if I was still in Nashville.  Even my partner who rarely comments on skylines and buildings was amazed.  The most amazing view was heading east on West End near Vanderbilt.  That view looking towards downtown is incredible now.  I always liked it.  But now, it's just so different because of the high rises along West End.  Downtown is literally a backdrop to that area.  Not just a core of buildings off in the distance.

We were also taken back by the volume of people in downtown on almost every single street.  Thankfully, I knew not to fall in behind a peddle bars.  Unfortunately we ended up next to an open air party bus with  a bachelorette party of around 20.  I was just praying that my car didn't become a target for someone who had too much to drink....  We did see that on a peddle bar.  It wasn't pretty... LOL!!!  For all of the energy though, I kinda felt a bit taken back, because downtown has pretty much become a huge bar fest.   However, we could feel energy in so many other parts of the city that clearly are more local driven.  Thank God for that.

We did pay a visit to the National Museum for African American Music and we enjoyed it immensely.  The museum is very well done.  It's an immersive experience if you choose to do it.  You can even create a playlist of your own from the exhibits.  We will go back, because we didn't get to take in all of it the way we would have liked.  I do love the 5th & Broadway development.  It is a great addition to the downtown scene.  The Assembly Food Hall is far more than just a food court.  I can see the entire concept being a draw.  Hopefully, locals will want to hang out there as well.   

The Gulch now reminds of the 14th and U Street area of DC.  It's young, vibrant and eclectic.  We made an attempt to go to Biscuit Love.  Didn't happen.  When we arrived in the area, the line was out the door and down the block.  That's why we ended up in the Assembly Food Hall at 5th & Broadway.  Now, the Gulch needs that crowning jewel.  You all know which building that is....  

One other thing and I'm done... well, maybe two...   The Church Street viaduct is looking really awesome with the Asurion building and Amazon Bldg. (which looks better in person).  I can't wait to see the other additions to the area.  The Grand Hyatt really adds to Broadway.  And, I think One22One is going to create that gateway feel into downtown that I spoke about a while ago in that thread.  Finally, and know this is #3... Beaman, it's time to go.

I agree wholeheartedly.  If I had gone on, trust me I would have gotten around to PSC Metals.  That and all of the potholes all over the city.  Geeesh, no one in TN should be against Biden's infrastructure bill....  I was dodging potholes on both the streets and interstates.

I agree.  And whichever party is in charge always throws in tons of pork.  We should all be disgusted by what all has been thrown into ALL of the spending bills that have come forward in the past year.

No way this bill makes it through without the Democrats giving up some of their pork…which probably means they’ll have to allow the Republicans to have some of their own pork….which doesn’t solve anything.

Too bad we can’t just pass a bill to fix roads and bridges RIGHT NOW (nothing else) and work on all of the other “pork” stuff later…but that’s not how Washington works.

What sort of pork is in this bill?  Honest question... I haven't looked at the details of it myself.

Out of $2.25 Trillion…

Some of the funds that would go towards things you wouldn’t normally consider “infrastructure”:

-$400 Billion for long term care services for aging persons

-$35 Billion for Climate Science

-$25 Billion for Childcare facilities

-$18 Billion for Veterans Hospitals

-$100 Billion in Workforce Development Programs

And many more...

Of course, I guess the question is…what is considered “Infrastructure?”  I’m sure there’s a way to twist things to make everything seem like it belongs under the heading of “infrastructure”…but obviously, this is a bill designed to provide SOME money for infrastructure along with many pet projects (not saying they’re not good projects…they just don’t belong in an infrastructure bill).  If we could strip it down to the most vital elements…and bring this under $1 Trillion…I’m sure it would be more palatable to many.

And btw…if the shoe were on the other foot (Republicans with a partisan bill)…it would probably be the same way.  This is not an attack on either party more than the other.  The fact is…both parties have stymied one another to the point that now (after decades of partisan moves) that when one party is in control, they feel they have to tack on every single pet program to any and every bill just to make sure they’ll get something in the end.  Almost like “you won’t get it unless you ask for it.”  However…to blame Republicans for not having this already passed when it hasn’t even been voted on yet is a bit premature.  Hopefully…there will be some kind of bipartisan agreement since both parties actually desire infrastructure improvements.

Thank you for the run down!  That does help to clear things up a bit.  I see what you're saying, as those items probably don't fit the traditional definition of "infrastructure."  In my personal opinion, I'd still say those causes listed are each a worth while and even, in some cases, very necessary allocations of funds, and don't really fit my idea of what constitutes "pork" in a bill.  To me pork would look something more like promising money to such and such Senator's district so they can build a new opera house, or horse museum, or whatever lol.  I suppose though that's just my subjective perspective, and let's be honest, I'm sure there's probably plenty of that sort of thing in there too.  haha

Either way, as you stated, just in the interest of getting something passed and getting help to areas that desperately need it, I agree that at this point the country would probably be better served if the bill was trimmed to focus on more traditional infrastructure like bridges, railroads, highways, electrical grids etc.  And although I personally think the Republican counter-offer was a bit light relative to the massive infrastructure needs this country faces, I am nevertheless very encouraged that they actually had a counter offer to present, which gives me hope that there just might be enough of an appetite on both sides of the aisle to work toward getting something concrete done.  And really, why shouldn't there be?  Bridges rust all the same whether they're in The Bronx or Baton Rouge!

It's pretty funny now to think that pretty much everybody (including me) was so stressed that the 4 Seasons wasn't going to look as tall as we had all imagined just a couple of months ago. Safe to say that it is in fact huge now and still has some mass to be added to the top. It redefines the skyline in a really nice way too with the lean, more graceful proportions.

Can we have like a 750ft+ batman building, or something similar in design? Just something to make it known that this is Nashville.  Kinda like Chicago's Willis Tower and John Hancock building are similar.

I think two or three other buildings with some type of spire/s would be nice. That would create both continuity and identity across the skyline as a whole.

I agree.  Although to me the best locations for such buildings are rapidly disappearing.  I'd like to see at least 2 iconic towers in downtown/SoBro.  I'd also like to see at least one iconic tower in mid-town.  A 40-45 story building in mid-town with a nice crown would really help set the area off.  The Beaman site would be ideal for it because of its proximity to the interstate.  I think it would be ideal for such a tower in mid-town to be no more than 3 blocks from the interstate for visual impact.
