In addition the my 750' dream, I'm also dreaming that downtown itself will jump the river.  Then those redesigned bridges could add to the uniqueness of downtown instead of marking its eastern end.

I proposed this exact concept to Metro about 30 years ago. though I had a level of city offices directly under the bridges at the level of Gay Street and the end on the East Bank had a massive parking garage and a  tower office building.  I don't see the relevance however of suspension bridges though as existed on Woodland in the 1870s.  Not even close to practical.

Maybe not suspension bridges per say, but some stone towers reminiscent of the old bridge. Just as a throwback design elements

Here are two shots taken while I was waiting at the light at 12th and Demonbreun yesterday.  This part of town is really changing fast.

Got curious so I looked at this on Google Streetview. Here's the first picture compared to April of '09. Pinnacle is still under construction in the background.

Incredibly impressive shot! Nashville is truly fast-building an entirely seamless skyline from the banks of the Cumberland downtown, all the way to Vanderbilt University. 

Such a strong skyline has been built, in such a short amount of time.
