I honestly don't understand why more hotels don't do that.  I mean, if I were from out of town planning a trip to Nashville, and saw a shot of the nighttime skyline that featured that building, what would I think?  Probably, 'oh wow, well I guess we should be staying at The Grand Hyatt!'

Some of us don't care for a lightshow out of our hotelroom window.  We like it DARK.  They never have good enough blackout curtains at casino hotels for me.  I would NEVER stay at the Grand Hyatt.

I highly doubt they'd have the exterior lighting if it created a blue glow in all the guest rooms.

Never said it would.  My commemt relates to my personal sensitivity to light.  I wake up at 4:50 AM from crepuscular light if the drapes are not drawn like today.  When I travel, I tend to stay in Vbros out from the town even in places like Hot Springs or the Blue Ridge,  I live way out in the Sticks at the very back of a 50 arce farm  and nowhere near any street of security lights.  Hate 'em.  I have fought for dark skies for most of my life.  Besides, I would also NEVER stay in a hotel in a city anyway.  The background noise of police and emergency sirens is even worse to me trying to sleep than the light.

You would probably like that creeper stuff coming through your balcony. to block the light....Just messing with you Randy..LOL

I LOVE the creeper stuff as you put it, Smeag.   Unlike many cities, Nashville is sited in the middle of an urban forest and such greenery on the face of buildings helps a lot to take up the green above the street trees.  To me, it was a tragedy to have the trees around the Schemerhorn removed.  Also the treatment is nowhere near as laughable as the palms at Margaritaville IMO.

The trees in Memphis are huge compared to trees in Nashville.

We don’t have as many large Oak trees out east.  I grew up 2 hours SW of Memphis…and our trees were much larger…mostly Oak and some Pecan trees.  Here in Middle Tennessee…the hickory, walnut and maples don’t seem as large.  Of course, we had black, sandy soil for growing…which is different than Middle TN and the limestone.

I've heard it said that the soil in the Mississippi Delta (which starts in the lobby of the Peabody Hotel in Memphis, so they say) is so rich that even fenceposts sprout roots.  When I lived in Memphis I had a small lot, but I still had two gigantic pecan trees, as did most people in my Midtown neighborhood.  It made for some amazing pecan pies.  It's one of the things I truly enjoyed about Memphis.

I really wish Garth Brooks would tear down this blue building he bought and rebuild it in the classic Lower Broadway fashion (3-4 story brick).  Everything about that building detracts from the cool architecture (the blue siding and ugly windows).

I think that blue exterior on the Garth Brooks Bldg is just covering an older facade of a building behind it-I hope he just peels that off and we get to see the actual facade that was originally built.

Some owners did that with older buildings in the 50's because they did not like the "old look".

I think that building might actually date to mid 20th century.

Just having a side view look of the building on Google Maps, it looks like you may be correct. Even so, I really hope they get rid of that facade and replace it with a brick facade that blends better with buildings surrounding it.

It was built in 1945 according to real estate records.
