Here are a few shots from Thursday and Friday.   First the classic view down Church Street from the Nashville City Club.

Then, from yesterday, the storm moves into West Nashville.  The reflection on the right is the Polk Building.

And also from my perch at Sixth and Union, we see the storm move over the Capitol Building.  Flags show a strong west wind.

So pardon my ignorance, but what's a Summer Slam?  Wrestling? Why would wrestling be held outdoors?  Did they expect far more than the apparent number of spectators?

Your pics are always great @chris holman  Jealous of the views from your apartment.  This one in particular amazes me because of the canyon that's developing there. Five years ago none of this existed... and the Gulch Union, 12th Demonbreun, Gulch Central and the Caption Hotel (along with the Gibson residences phase 2) will make this look so dense. It's just stunning how fast Nashville is changing.

Chris, this is a favorite photo of mine from your post today. I especially appreciate that view of the state Capitol, which will be gone from this vantage point pretty soon!

The area in front of the Fifth Third Center has been renovated again.  This time they have added many tables and chairs as well as planters.  Most of the furniture is made of unfinished wood and has a modern look.  When I inspected the plaza yesterday it was not fully open and no one appeared to be using it yet.  But soon it could accommodate dozens of Starbucks customers and other diners.

 

Not sure how these structures are intended to be used.  Sunbathing?

Here is a view of the front door looking up.

And here are the Viridian and L&C Tower across the street and the old Third National Building next door.  (Rumor has it that Service Source is moving out and the building will become residential.)

Finally we have the soaring 505 at Fifth and Church.

OK... I'll be the one to say... JUNKY!!!!!  If that's the goal, then success!  If it was supposed to be classy, welcoming, durable, and blend into the surrounding built environment, then FAIL.    - MLB (Sour Puss) 

PS: Reminds me of that neighbor in your upper middle class 'hood who decides to put a coi pond in their front yard (complete with blue nylon lining) and surrounds it with folding lawn chairs... IN DECEMBER!  BTW: They moved back to their hometown Chicago about 4 years ago.

To me it looks like a cross between a hipster outdoor  beer garden and the Lawn and Garden section of Home Depot.

I certainly admire the effort put into activating this plaza and making it an inviting place to hang out, but it just really clashes stylistically with the building that it was placed in front of. This setup could work for me in front of an apartment building or something, but it doesn't really feel right at that location.

Exactly right... I couldn't agree more.  A for effort... I agree wholeheartedly with the sentiment... it just doesn't feel right for a white-collar downtown corporate environment.

Lmao... my god... we may have to go into business together... just imagine... if you could go relax and drink beer instead of begrudgingly following your significant other around the *fill in the blank* section of Home Depot with that stupid orange cart for half your Sunday.  Did we just become billionaires?  Of course... we'd have to come up with a different name.  How about... Dome Hepot.  Perfect!

Lmao you and me both my friend... in my estimation 'hipster' isn't a good or bad thing, but it is a thing with certain characteristics attached to it... either way, you and me will be clanking our stout bottles together and yucking it up while the significant others browse the flower section for seventeen hours.  See you there!
