Couldn't really decide where to ask this question, so settled for this string since it's often existing shots of Nashville.  This neighborhood has always seemed a bit odd to me.  And cool at the same time.

Metro made a huge mistake with the construction of John Henry Hale Homes. This was done when Metro was just starting to rehab the older barracks style homes and was a missed opportunity. It should have been done like Cayce, but we got a lot more of the same. These will not age well, plus it was a waste of land.

i would image over time, that neighborhood will be bought out, bit by bit rezoned, and developed.

Walked around a little bit, tacos and ice cream are from Assembly Food Hall.  I noticed there were weed related kiosks everywhere around lower broadway.   I could care less if people want to get high, but these things are sooo tacky.

Yes!!!!  That's it!  This brought back such memories.  This entry looks a bit older.  I'm going to see if I can dig my old ones out (if I still have them).  Thanks for posting this!

This shot will be dramatically different in a short period of time! Within a few years (2-3) we will see the Pinnacle Tower, the two residential Towers and hopefully the A3 tower. Plus the 750 foot Y project, and the Prime !! And if we are lucky, the start of Tennessean site.

Awesome shot angle, Mark.  It's almost  like a whole different city...if not for 5/3 in the shot, you might not even know it's Nashville!  Another perspective of this shot is that the entire skyline was either just built or under construction!

John Henry Hale homes were built as if Nashville was a shrinking rust belt town. Land adjacent to downtown, built at less than 10 housing unit per acre (233 on ~32 ac)!?

Ron's point on doing it this community the way that MDHA did Cayce is a good one, but I'd go a step further: Metro should partner with the private sector. In Germany, local governments hold design contests that for-profits, non-for-profits, even architecture schools and students participate in. Nashville could absolutely do that.

If Metro partnered with for-profit developers, they could cross-subsidize the construction and operation of more affordable housing via market-rate apartments - Metro could give a developer relief on land cost in exchange for some number of low-income units, mixed with market-rate units, instead of concentrating poverty further. The examples in these pages show that these acres could be built at a 30 du/ac (dwelling units per acre) up to 100 du/ac without requiring expensive all-concrete construction, in built forms that would look right at home between the developments in Midtown and the Marathon Village area.

If Metro enables 50 du/ac on the 32 acres, and 33% of units were affordable, MDHA would be managing double the current units they have today, while allowing another 1000 market rate units (all on a frequent transit line, walkable to a grocery store, accessible to all sorts of jobs/education/etc.).

Has there been any more murmuring of reuse of this massive parking lot? I know it belongs to the church and they have expressed no intention of selling it--I just loathe the fact that this entire stretch of Demonbreun is such a no-man's-land except for occasional activation during events at the MCC
