Wow , how far we’ve come !

Funny thing you just posted this. I saw this photo on a Facebook group of the Concorde visiting Nashville in 1987.  Very cool, but the skyline is really confusing me. The Renaissance (Stouffer) looks so far removed from everything, and shouldn’t the R2D2 building be closer? It just looks really off to me.

Wouldn’t One Nashville Place have signage in 1989? We moved to Tennessee in October of 1988 and I remember the argon lights around the crown and rather large signs. Is it possible this photo is right after One Nashville Place was completed  in 1985? Heck even the Fifth Third Bank building had lighting on its top then.

I think this image must be flipped. Everything DOES seem off kilter.

Looks like the pic was flipped. Like the plane might be flying to the left not the right.

Confirming the other folks' comments, the photo is inverted. I'm surprised they didn't catch it at the time before it was published.

The photo couldn't have been taken after its construction, because it was apparently taken from the-then Stouffer Hotel, which wasn't completed for 2-3 years afterwards. The Tennessean stated the Dominion Bank signage went up in February 1988. Nashville Then: February 1988 (tennessean.com)

This photo spacer.png

was taken in 1986 with the Stouffer Hotel under construction, and One Nashville Place apparently had no signage, so the initial 1989 date of that photo would have actually been between 1986-February 1988.
