That's funny considering that Winnipeg's homicide rate is twice as high as Toronto's. If this is all you going by, I say Edmonton is most similar to LA since it is even sprawlier and it is the murder capital of Canada, though the murder rate is still not anywhere close to LA's.

In terms of architectiture, size, important and density, inner city Toronto is more like a north-eastern US (rustbelt) inner city, except without the decay and population loss. On the other hand, suburban Toronto has the higher density and compactness of southwestern US (sunbelt) suburbs. The pace at which the Toronto area is growing is also more like the sunbelt cities.

However, the only city in the US that even come close to Toronto in terms of public transit use is New York (more than 50% of all transit trips in the US are in New York).

One unique thing about Toronto worth mentioning is the huge amount of high-rise apartment buildings in the suburbs, and the only US metro that is similar in this way is Miami, though it still pales in comparison to Toronto.

None. I was just in Toronto and couldn't believe how different it was from all the major cities in the U.S. Thats a good thing BTW. We were up there 3 days and didn't hear about 1 homicide in a city that large. Amazing. The day we got back home there were 4-5 murders in just one day in our smaller metro area. The city was amazingly clean (not in a sterile way) and we felt safe at night in any part of town unlike any larger metro in the U.S.
