Norfolk International Airport

The new Airbus A321LR might be good for Norfolk, as it is a small (B737) sized aircraft capable of flying over the Atlantic to Europe (although barely) Norfolk could benefit from being a low cost hub alternative to the big East coast hubs like JFK/Dulles/ATL ect.

Edit: The probable upcoming Boeing 797 Middle-of-the-market (MOM) aircraft could also do so, as it will be capable of transatlantic flights and will be 757-sized (and I know I have flown 757s into Norfolk before)

I could imagine this being a popular route due to the military base located there.

An interesting little tidbit VB huh um Sessoms started a group to look at issues with ORF and what can be improved. Which is good but the interesting bit is he said if VB had to invest in the airport it would ... if they got a return on that investment.

1. This is actually a good idea, IMO. Getting Norfolk and VB to work closer together on improving the airport helps both cities, esp. with VB getting a lot of tourism. If tourists realize, "I can fly into Norfolk, get my rental car and drive 20 minutes to the beach, that's a good deal", then it's a win-win for both.

I could see VB investing, but it would probably require the airport to be renamed "Norfolk-Virginia Beach International Airport". It may even get a little more name recognition that way. To me, it would be worth it, but I'm sure the VB taxpayers would never go for it. Plus, look at the outlet mall and light rail.

2. I really want Mayor Sessoms to stop trying to make "Coastal Virginia" a thing. :P

Also...ORF tweeted that Delta is offering non-stop service to Minneapolis-St. Paul and JFK in New York. Crossing my fingers for non-stop to Vegas and Miami.

ORF saw a 10% increase in passenger traffic in June over last June and was the busiest month since 2007.
