Gamla Stan is the historic island of Stockholm. It starts with some grand buildings which includes the Royal Palace and Parliament.

I liked the old palace more.

Although the skies cleared out very nicely on my first day in Stockholm, it was the late afternoon sun that hindered me from taking nice pictures. The island is quite dense, so sunlight doesn't always reach the street. Hence there is this contrast.

It was impossible to get rid of the shadow ...

... so I had to do some close-up shots instead.

There is actually a blue line on the ground around here. Visitors are not allowed to pass that line and get too close and personal with the standing guards.

Yes, no sun light ...

More from Gamla Stan to come! I couldn't end the tour on the first day. I had to come back again and again.
