The Banking Industry in the Triad

This is good news. The name on Greensboro's ballpark was just the beginning. I think the best case scenario is for First Horizon to build a regional headquarters somewhere in the Triad. But most certainly we'll see branches poping up all over the region.

Perhaps they could fill up the remaining unleased space in the Winston Tower in addition to putting a branch there.

or Triad Tower in Greensboro which has just announced exapnsion of its office tower size. Brand New office space would be attractive to First Horizon and its more centrally located in the region. That could explain the timing of both stories with First Horizon talikng about expansion and Faulk Companies expanding the size of Triad Tower.

It will soon be announced that Carolina Bank will build a 40,000 square foot, 4-story office headquarters in DT Greensboro. The location will be between Market St. and Friendly Ave. at Swing St. This is the current location of the sales model for Brown Properties Arbor House Condos across the street. Construction will begin in late Summer 2007. The complete story will be forthcoming in the next addition of the Triad Business Journal.

Not part of a new highrise....yet good news for DT Greensboro! :good:

Thanks for the great news! It is another example that proves my point that office development is picking up in downtown Greensboro. Carolina Bank could have chosen any office park in the city to build its corporate headquarters but they chose downtown. Even though its only a 4-story proposal, its great to see more infill development. We need to get rid of most of the parking lots on the west side of downtown. Hopefully this will be very interesting architecturally and not designed like a typical suburban office building. Maybe something that will compliment Arbor House Condos across the street.

On the hills of Greensboro based Carolina Bank announcing plans to build a new headquarters in downtown Greensboro, Greensboro based FNB Financial Services Corp and Lexington, NC based LSB Bankshares Inc will merge with the corporate headqaurters being in Greensboro. The news conference was at Grandover Resort. It will be the largest bank headquarters Greensboro has had in a very long time. The size of the newly merged bank could lead to a highrise headquarters in downtown Greensboro should they decide on having the headqaurters downtown. Im glad to see Greensboro having more bank headqaurters. Carolina Bank would be much smaller than this newly merged FNB and LSB bank and Carolina Bank is proposing a 4 to 5 story building downtown. Imagine what could be proposed if the newly merged bank built its headquraters downtown or at the very least lease space in an office tower built by a developer. Could we see a potential 10 or 12 story headqaurters in the making? Lets keep our fingers crossed. It will be interesting to see what the new name will be and if and where they build a new headqaurters building. Hopefully a unique name like Wachovia, Some name thats rooted in Greensboro like Wachovia was for Winston-Salem. The merger will put the new bank in a position to seek further aquisitions and continue to get even larger. The new bank will have branches across NC an some in Virginia.

They are leasing about 25,000 sq ft in an office building in NW Greensboro. They would likely need more office space than that and the fact that they are leasing there means they havent planted their feet on that location in Greensboro. So we could see a move downtown.

I'm about to share an opinion. Feel free to stick your fingers in your ears and scream "I'm not listening" for the next few lines.

If it resembles the Greenville building in the picture, this will be a pretty good building. The Greenvillie building respects the street and does not emphasize parking along the sidewalk.
