The home rule debate has seems to have come to referendum that will be on the ballots on November 7 along with gubernatorial elections. The St. Clair County Commission passed the home rule referendum resolution 5-0 without any opposition. The region as well as the state itself is making more headway on the journey to possessing home rule at least they are trying.

St. Clair to vote on home rule

There are now a small group of people who are opposed to the referendum that will be on the November 7th ballot on the limited home rule of St. Clair County. Their main argument which doesn't stand any real legs to stand upon is "maybe some people don't want the government to tell them how to maintain their property".

Stupidity and ignorance never seems to be in short supply in this state. Why wouldn't you want the county to pickup your garbage, spray for pest, remove public nuances, or make our local officials more accountable for their actions? Oh yeah, because we have some many ignoramuses in this state that don't do their research and fear any kind of change whatsoever.

Bibb, Cullman, and St. Clair voted to opposes but Tuscaloosa appoves limited home rule

No surprise, considering how misinformed and ignorant some are in those county's and speaking against it. It just shows that we still have a long way to go when it comes to realizing that the local government should be held accountable not the state. However, Tuscaloosa voters realize that the state should manage their affairs and want to more accountability on the county commission's part.
