^Socialism is an economic system and has nothing to do with the freedoms of individuals just like capitalism doesn't either. There are capitalist cities in China, but the citizens do not have constitutional rights like they do in this county.

Likewise, all governments from the United states on, determine where resouces will be allocated in this country and who or what benefits from those allocations. The primary tool for this is the tax system but there are thousands of rules, regulations and laws that dictate what individuals and companies can do in this country. These days, due to 20 years of public policy that supports this, US policy is to give corporations unprecidented control over the economic system and the daily lives of individual americans.

On the other comment you made about giving up freedoms to insure security, I assume then you are against the Patriot act and the Terroism bill that was signed into law last week, which pretty much removes your right of habeas corpus simply when someone in the goverment accuses you of terrorism.
