Without this getting too nasty, what are you opinions for/against either of these candidates?

Personally, I don't think this is a good time to unseat Lieberman. Despite my disagreement with him on a few topics, he is a powerful Senator that does give power to the State of Connecticut. Ned Lamont would be a freshman Senator with a big mouth that would get 0 accomplished. Also, our good buddy Lowell Weicker has just popped his fat face on the scene trying to dethrone the guy that dethroned him. Since I hate Weicker with a passion, that just solidifies my dislike of millionaire Ted, who I see as out-of-touch (even more-so than Lieberman) with the struggles of the everyman. Just my opinions, of course. BTW, I can't even vote in the primary, so I have no power over this....

Liberman should be voted out as he has failed in his job as a Democrat to do anything to keep the Republicans from destroying the country. If he were to win, it would be a clear sign the Democrats are more interested in politicans that cling to power rather than making the sacrifices for the people they represent. If Liberman wants to support the Republican platform, he ought to run as a Republican.

I hate Lamont. That guy's campaign has been nothing but slimy and hypocritical. Gotta love it when people run nothing but attack ads then as soon as the opponent runs a negative ad to decide to take the high road. I don't get how once someone decides to take an unpopular stand on a tough issue, he's not a "good Democrat". What ever happened to thinking for one's self and forming an opinion? I don't see how he personally benefits from supporting the war, and I think it's admirable that he's got the position he does. Given all he's done for the state, including just last year saving the Sub Base, I would say the Democratic party has abandoned him if they vote in a one party candidate in the primaries.

According to the wikipedia, his inherited fortune came from his grandfather, who was the chairman of JP Morgan and his uncle was a suspected communist/admitted socialist as the chairman of the ACLU. Didn't a handful of celebrities like George Soros and moveon.org have a lot to do with this? A lot of what's going on hasn't been the choice of the people of CT....

Could/Would Lieberman run as an independent than allign with the Republicans after being re-elected? I wish the national parties weren't polarizing themselves so much, Lieberman really is good for us.

on edit: There's the old "Where's Joe?" Lamont commercial on TV right now. I wonder how many voters are too stupid to see through stuff like that. What would we rather have, a Senator who spends his time speaking with "the people" nonstop or spending time in Washington getting things done. I'm sure Lieberman has free time he spends with his family, but come on. What does this guy expect?

I've always liked Lieberman. He's honest, he believes what he says and never lets any party sway his vote. He is an old school Democrat that really cares for the people he serves IMO. He's my ideal candidate - left of center on social issues and right of center on international affairs and economics (well, for the most part). I hope he wins but I'm not holding out much hope. I can see the writing on the wall. I predict a Lamont win, 54% to 46%.

lieberman is a big family man, i know that much. i think that's very honorable of him.

i also like him a lot. he doesn't seem to care for the whole democrat/republican thing. and he's honest. he's always open about his views and stances on the issues. i'd overlook his stance on the war just to have a decent moderate who is socially left of center in the senate.

However, it would be at Connecticut's expense, since Lieberman knows how to bring back money to Connecticut and is a powerful force in Washington. So I'm supporting Lieberman.

Only Connecticut is dumb enough to shoot itself in the fooot and elect Lamont. LaMont will be completely powerless in the Senate. He won't affect war policy or any other policy.

He will just weaken Connecticut's congressional clout. It's Connecticut joke on themselves.

However, it would be at Connecticut's expense, since Lieberman knows how to bring back money to Connecticut and is a powerful force in Washington. So I'm supporting Lieberman.

while lieberman does support the war, he also supports a concrete plan, which is not what the president has. in that respect, he's better for the war than most republicans who blindly support bush.

lieberman is a great senator and really fights for what his constituents need.

He says it's for the families and children, yet don't those same families have the right to turn the dial and watch their children like everyone else? Meanwhile fines for dumping waste in the Sound are under $50k. That being said, it's a hickup, and I think we are better with Joe than without him....

i think most democrats are in favor of the "indecency" fines.

but yes, the country and especially CT are better with him than someone who doesn't have as much clout in the senate.

I agree. If Lamont gets in the senate, not much will be done for CT. Besides it looks like Joe is starting to gain momentum.

If he cared about his political career, he wouldn't have taken the stand on Iraq that he did.

The "real election" in November should be even more interesting with the Republicans essentially backing Lieberman behind the scenes. I'll certainly be voting for Lieberman.

Yeah.... I really want to know how Joe benefits from his position on Iraq. At least on the most important issues, Lieberman seems to do what he believes is right. I couldn't help but notice the people surrounding Lamont at his victory celebration were from out of the state. I'd say if you look at Lamont's family history in addition to his personal history (which included quitting a lilly white country club only AFTER deciding to run for the office) you would see this guy is very questionable. We all know what Lieberman's done for the State of Connecticut. I can't believe that doesn't count for much with the voters in this primary.

Lamont really rubs me the wrong way, I'm really hoping Leiberman kicks his ass in November...

i can see joe winning in november regardless of what party he runs under. i think the issue is that not enough people vote in primaries, and he probably woudl've won had more people voted in them (although i admittedly do not know what the numbers were).
