Honda Jet

Guilford County just approved its incentives and the Honda Aircraft Company will make a press announcement in Greensboro tommorrow (Friday). looks like its a sealed deal. This is the biggest job economic news for Greensboro (in terms of high paying salaries) since RF Micro devices. But the average Salery at Honda Aircraft company will be higher than RF Micro above $70,000 per year. Honda will hire more than 300 people. High Paying jobs is what the area needs and hopefully more will follow. I am amazed that the company didnt ask for a rediculous amount for incentives. Greensboro only offered $600,000 and the combined incentives package with the local governments of Guilford County, High Point and private group in Winston-Salem tops out at just above a million dollars.

It would be nice if Honda decided to build another automobile factory, they could build it along with the Honda Aircraft Company.

Honda is also the official sponsor of Major League Soccer. Maybe the Triad has some leverage in getting an expansion team one day :)

This article basically talks about how the Triad's economy is headed towards aviation and areospace. There are already aviation related companies in the Triad. Symbolically NC is a great fit for aviation companies due to the state being first in flight. The Triad would be the region that we receive alot of benefits for this industry.

"I think its an emerging industry," Ratcliff said. "It is the biotechnology industry of 25 years ago.

That growth could be especially obvious in the Triad, which is poised to become the state's first airplane manfucturing center"

This could be the economic niche which seperates the Triad from the Triangle and Charlotte. Charlotte is the banking hub, The Triangle is the biotech hub. The Triad can be the aviation/aerospace hub.

Antilles Seaplanes in Gibsonville (Guilford County) and Opus Aircraft in Stoneville (Rockingham County) are also Triad companies that are going to be making planes.

"Honda announced last month that it will begin making deliveries on its $3.65 million small jets in 2010.

The company says it will hire 300 people, but local recruiters say they can see employment rising to 1,000.

Antilles and Opus could begin making airplanes later this year.

Antilles plans to recreate the Grumman Goose, a 10-passenger, amphibious plane that was last manufactured in 1945."

I think this could lead to much bigger things and even industries related to space travel.

It appears that more good news is on the way! Honda is looking for a site to build its engines for the Honda Jet plane to be manufactured in Greensboro. local airports are competing to land the engine plant including the airport in Burlington. Kathi Dubel, a spokeswoman for the Greensboro Economic Development Alliance, said her group still is negotiating with Honda about the engine plant. There are 600 acres availble by PTI for the engine plant. logistically Greensboro has the best shot as the engine plant would be right next to the jet plant and pracically next door to FedEx. Lets keep our fingers crossed!

Yeah, if land is available adjacent to the Jet facility I couldn't fathom why they wouldnt't build it there, transporting jet engines even a few miles away has to eventually cost more than the premium paid for land at PTI. Actually, is there even a premium for land around PTI?

An article about Burlington concerning this..

http://www.news-record.com/apps/pbcs.dll/a...C0103/303290004

I saw it in another smaller newspaper from Alamance County last week sometime, but couldnt find a link to share here from that publication.

A side note...Honda also has a lawnmower plant in Southern Alamance County. Probably not a factor in this (as airplanes and lawnmowers are apples and oranges)...but thought I'd throw that out there anyway.
