Anyone notice the item in the E-Packets for Israel's proposal to turn an old American Seating warehouse into a main floor showroom and residential lofts (apartments) above, at the corner of Seward and 7th?

When I lived at American Seating, I was wondering when they were going to do something with that building. About time, as it's a pretty big eyesore.

<off topic>.. I really LOVE the building just south of this one (another Isreals I think). I wonder if the top floor (with all the windows) is residential, anyone have any info on it?</off topic>

Is this the same building that was supposedly marketed to Google?

Also, does moving the "Israel's Other Store" out of the Grandville Ave area have anything to do with the riverfront property proposals? (i.e. prep for area being razed and rebuilt)

Google looked at the old factory just to the South of the new Israel's store on Seward. This project is just North of that.

Israel's other store is in that massive warehouse that is not within the properties Faust was looking at.

While the building may have been used for warehousing at the end, it was a manufacturing plant in the late 60's 70's and early 80's. I don't remember everything they made there but I do remember they made hospital furniture. It certainly wasn't the model of efficiency. I used to visit there with my dad who was their Chief Tool Engineer / Supt of Tooling during that period.

Bob Israel has scored two commercial tenants for the 4th and 5th floors of 600 5th St NW.

Israel's ready to restore former factory

It's the Southern half of the Israel's Widdicomb Trade Center. The two new tenants have not been named yet, but Erhardt Construction has been hired to go ahead with the renovations.

More about it in Chris' blog.

Bob said the tenants will bring new jobs and new vitality to the corridor, which his Widdicomb Trade Center and American Seating/Pioneer Construction's American Seating Park (among others) have helped revitalize.

Bob's not done. While health issues are slowing him down, he still has a grand vision that encompasses additional properties in the area.

Work looks like it has begun on this project. Still don't know who the tenant will be, but it will be an office tenant according to Bob Israel:

In related news, Bob Israel is leading a drive to renovate and expand St. Adalbert's School behind the 5th Street property, already raising $2 Million for the project after an open house a few weeks ago:

Renovate St. Adalbert's school for what? School? Or other use?
