Washington St

How is Washington Street not the picture of the perfect Hartford? It has a ton going for it, location primary amongst those. WHy is the area around the hospital not the most booming place in the city, all sorts of things going on over there. Those run-down apartment buildings should have been redone into high end stuff long ago, and don't forget the end running up toward the Court and the Capitol....

Well, if the doctors moved into the area...

Washington Street really isn't that bad. But the hospital is kinda secluded from everything else unfortunately, especially with that massive parking garage making it difficult to get up to the street. So it's not reaping the benefits of having such a large employer right there. Plus Washington Street is poorly zoned, too many parking lots and drivethroughs. Even Dunkin Donuts across the street from the hospital has a parking lot in front of it, turning off people who might potentially want to walk there. Pizza Plus is great, though.

Washington St used to be lined with mansions. Some still remain, but have been converted into mixed use buildings and have become rundown. If you could see what the building (the chinese restaurant) on the corner of Park and Washington looks like under all those additions, you would be amazed.

This is something I never though about. It is to bad Washington Street doesnt get more attention. It's is a major center of business in Hartford.

Starting by the capital are the state's highest courts and just off washington is elm street which houses many state employees and those food vendors.

Moving on down is Hartford Hospital, CT Children's Medical Center and the Institute of Living

And right across from the Institute of Living is the side of the Learning Corrdoir. Near that is a new Boys & Girls Club facility.

Also PizzaPlus is a restaurant that needs more attention. It is one of the great city restaurants located in the city that is not downtown so sometimes gets left out like some of the south end restaurants.

My father and his law firm own the Lucius Barbour house at 130 Washington Street, which is on the National Register of Historic Places. The bottom two floors are the attorneys' offices while the top floor is rented out as a residence for an artist. The exterior and interior of the house have been restored and are amazing.
