Residential Zone Permit Parking

With all the exciting new neighborhood projects going on and the fact that our central city neighborhoods & business districts will continue to grow, a Residential Permit Parking program is a good idea to help with the "where will we park issues" that come up in front of Planning and Zoning.

Chicago has a great program. It is "designed to restrict parking on designated residential streets during specified hours, except for the residents of that street, guests of the residents or those who provide a service to the residents. This program helps to ensure that residents of densely populated areas have reasonable access to parking near their residences. Cars parked in violation of this ordinance will be ticketed." -City Clerk of Chicago

Thoughts???

Will this program work in GR?

This is something we have talked about very briefly in our neighborhood. I'm sure Heritage Hill has had similar conversations. We have a lot of students, nurses and, right now, construction workers, that park in our neighborhood every morning. Instead of getting mad and complaining about it, I think we could be proactive and institute a parking permit with some enforcement. Personally, I like that people have to compete for parking in my neighborhood. It's a sign of good things to come.
