Yeah, UCF downtown would be really cool to attend.  Dating myself, but back when I was picking a school, UCF was telling kids to look for off-campus apartments because there weren't a ton of Dorms. I ended up going to UF (for more reasons than that), but a Downtown Orlando campus would have really done a lot to sway me more towards UCF. The kids that get to attend the new campus will have a great opportunity!  Really cool to have the ability just to walk everywhere. . . (now just put another grocery store here!!!!)

Excellent point!  The west side of I-4 may be a great location for another downtown grocer; it could help build that quadrant.

There isn't really a big name grocer to serve the area, but I wouldn't be surprised to see one eventually now that UCF is for real.  For instance, Target has stated a main goal was to get "small format" stores including grocery/food section specifically in University campus markets and downtowns: https://corporate.target.com/article/2017/07/july-campus-stores

They just opened one last year a block away from UF and next to an apartment building.

I wouldn't be surprised to see another big name grocer to follow the money with a bunch of new students bringing some spending to that area.

Nearest grocery store is Publix on Colonial, and then heading south  Target actually..

On another note, isn't all this right on a Lymmo line?

I posted a note in the Publix thread (see the Coffee House) that Publix just broke ground on its first collegiate store (it's smaller) at USF's Temple Terrace campus. It will be interesting to see if they bring that format to Orlando.

Yep.  saw the site last week and a couple of months back off of Fletcher.  If you saw the old oaks that they had to tear down for that Publix, you would have done a die in to prevent them from getting bulldozed.  I was mortified and still b itching about it...terrible...

Their football team may suck, for now, but just look at it...  glorious.  And on a design side note, I thought that was going to be an exposed concrete parking deck only.  Look at it now.  Just fantastic.

Gainesville is really firing on all cylinders lately.  It's great to see the city embracing "big city" scale development. So many university towns tend to shun it in favor of maintaining the small town charm.

They've been working on the academic building for several months, with 100 or more pilings already in place, I drove by yesterday and they were in a new phase with quite a few workers on site.   They were using small backhoes and it looked like they were doing foundation work around the perimeter of the building.

By pilings I mean they were doing some kind of vertical drilling with a concrete pumps filling the holes.

I drove by there yesterday.  Saw the Commons Building site; yep.  That's close to the former Expo Center/ UCF building.

It looks like Amelia Court at Creative Village closed on 3 acres in CV and approved to begin foundation work this week. The plans are said to have 2 5 story residential buildings. I do not recall any renderings. Anyone have?

Considering what’s there now (an old parking lot) this will be a nice improvement. It does look like everything else but it’ll be a positive to the community to have more affordable housing in the area. The retail space it sounds like they are hoping UCF will rent it.
