I drove around downtown Orlando yesterday after not being there for several months. As I was driving south on I-4, the first thing that really stood out to me was how west of I-4 felt much more vertic

They've been working on the academic building for several months, with 100 or more pilings already in place, I drove by yesterday and they were in a new phase with quite a few workers on site.   They were using small backhoes and it looked like they were doing foundation work around the perimeter of the building.

By pilings I mean they were doing some kind of vertical drilling with a concrete pumps filling the holes.

I drove by there yesterday.  Saw the Commons Building site; yep.  That's close to the former Expo Center/ UCF building.

It looks like Amelia Court at Creative Village closed on 3 acres in CV and approved to begin foundation work this week. The plans are said to have 2 5 story residential buildings. I do not recall any renderings. Anyone have?

Considering what’s there now (an old parking lot) this will be a nice improvement. It does look like everything else but it’ll be a positive to the community to have more affordable housing in the area. The retail space it sounds like they are hoping UCF will rent it.

It's actually a circular rotunda atrium with a skylight and multiple fins extending outward from the radius. The corner elements are actually quite distinct. The rest looks pretty "meh" but I would like to see a three-dimensional rendering before I pass final judgment. It looks better than 420, Crescent Central, Camden NQ, etc, if you ask me.

I guess I'm alone when I say I like it because it fits. It's basic. But basic on the outside doesn't matter as much for who will be in it. Hoping this helps set off more development. They will/should fill up and that is the key. The taller things get in creative village, more aesthetics will/should be taken into consideration but this is fine to kick things off.

This x 1000. Any livable city needs a good amount of basic urban infill projects.

I agree with that too. Not every building can or even should be some award winning design. Every city has it's share of bland, run-of-the-mill architecture as well as lower height, stubby high-rises.

The only problem I have about this one is where it's going. This whole Creative Village concept seems to call out for something a little more ambitious than garden variety mid-rise infill.

I guess I should just be glad it isn't more of that Mediterranean/Mission Revival style, white/tan stucco with clay tile roofline junk.
