Wow, CV really beginning to take shape!

Huh.  I thought Amelia was going to keep going straight.  Did they decide to leave the curve in the road around the old Amway Center?

I wonder if they'll be able to use parking in existing garages for this project. It could bring down rent and avoid an ugly podium - but likely reduce height as well.

I think that the alignment will ultimately be straight, but it wasn't part of the initial phase of infrastructure work.

The new plat was recorded in late 2017 and it shows it still curved.  The original plan (when they applied for the federal money) showed it straightened out for sure.  I think it's disappointing.  Everything else about the project is great though.

Just out of curiosity (not trying to be contentious) what is disappointing about it?

I think it makes the layout more interesting and provides opportunities for construction that has some angled, non-squared shapes.

Yeah, why is this a big deal to people? The road still goes through, why does it matter if it’s curved? Genuinely curious.

It was necessary when it was built that way to accommodate the "new" (at the time) arena. Now that it's that way, why bother re-straightening it? I think that would be equally if not more unnecessary. As I opined earlier, the curve could create some interesting opportunities for construction designed to conform to it.

I think reconnecting the original street grid after decades of attempting to suburbanize it, would help.

I say keep the curve.  It allows the central park to be bigger, decreases the speed of traffic, and provides a more interesting layout to the area.  Why waste money on fixing something that isn't broken anyways?

I've always liked curves in the road, more interesting site lines and opportunities for the buildings, and the most natural way to cause people to pay more attention to the road and get cars driving a more harmonious speed.

I hadn't thought of that perspective.  From my seats on the west side of the stadium the downtown high-rises stick up over the roof and it looks really cool.  Wonder if the UCF building will be tall enough to peek up over the north side like that care when it's done?
