Pyramid/Bass Pro

It seems like Front Street is the only main obstacle. While the interstate is a psychological barrier, I'm envisioning something like a semicircle-type addition between the Pyramid and the convention center that hugs the ground as it exits the south or southeast corner of the Pyramid. The retail extends into the Pyramid parking lot to accompany a path toward the bluff where the cc overhangs Front. It's been a while since I've seen the area, so I don't know if this is feasible. Just an idea. It can ascend up grade toward the cc and then bridge over Front, with escalators and such, or it can burrow into the bluff. It might be easier to ascend b/c the cc already is built over Front some. Maybe I've described it ok, but I wish I could draw it. Or maybe it's so silly, maybe I'm glad I can't.

WIth the Riverbend announcement yesterday of this huge Cabela's project in Desoto CTY, don't you think Bass Pro and the Pyramid should part ways now before it is too late. They will be in competition. They will have an aquarium and all! At least the people on that project is not dragging their feet and will probably be up and running before Bass Pro even make a move.

It was on Channel 3 and 5 news 2 nights ago. It is going to be huge. I think the mayor's office needs to rethink this pyramid deal before it is too late. It may be on the riverbend website also.

Someone on the Mississippi site said it was at the Governor's signing yesterday in Walls. So it is a done deal. Sorry for Bass Pro but we don't need both.

I like the aquarium idea since I haven't heard anything about a major aquarium in West Tennessee.

I would love to see some retail in the Pyramid. A lot of tourist attractions are downtown and tourists could stop in the Pyramid and shop.

I think the aquarium idea is a great one.

I wondered what the hell was up with the Bass Pro. It didn't make sense to me, either.

I hope it goes bad. That facility should be used for something bigger with a better impact. I understand that such a store could target areas like West Tennesee and Northern Mississippi; I can see success in that market but I would prefer something more entertaining and exciting. I would like to go to the Pyramid but the store doesn't target me. I hope it flops...

I agree let's make it into a luxor 2 or a luxury hotel with a indoor theme park. certainly a structure like this can be something special. Bass pro had their chance and it looks like they blew it oh well let's move on to something else. Village roadshow should go to the coliseum. That's my take on it.

I hated the aquarium idea. New Orleans already has a great aquarium. Atlanta has the best in the world. It cost $200 million. Ours would be $50 million. How could we get anyone to come to Memphis when they could see a much better one in Atlanta or even Chattanooga? It would be nothing but a money pit. Besides, we need to enhance Memphis' reputation as an adult destination. With casinos, Beale, lax laws, and expensive restaurants, most people aren't going to vacation with their families to Memphis. However, retail will help us get more conventions, and those are the big money.

Still waiting on Bass Pro.

I'm trying to think of something else that should go into the Pyramid that'll be more appropriate for an area that is so close to the growing biotech industry. Here's what I would propose:

-Large interactive Science Museum with a few simulated "thrill" rides (e.g. riding thru space) , a large fish tank and "History of Medicine" component.

-A convention hall/meeting space and commercial area (resturants, banks, bookstore, retail, art gallery, Wallgreens, etc.) connected to the Convention Center via the tunnel.

-A resturant at the top of the building is a MUST

-An offical "Wonders" Museum and "Blues Hall of Fame" somewhere on site.
