a question about Rochester

Back in the day when the Erie canal crossed the Genesee River at downtown Rochester, it must have felt like a real hub. Now, with the NYS thruway running so far to the south, downtown Rochester has always felt kind of isolated to me. Do you think Rochester would "feel" different today if the thruway came in where 509 does now? Would Rochester be better off/more visible? We have heard for a long time that people across the country don't know where Rochester is. "Is it near Buffalo?" "Oh yeah, you're near the big city" (NO, that's WESTCHESTER)

Rochester would be better off if it didn't have that mini-ring highway cutting off its downtown from the entire rest of the city, IMO.

Just be glad that 390 wasn't extended into Downtown, and the expressway wasn't built up Lake Ave.

No question about it. If 90 had been built through Rochester instead of around it, it would have a much higher visibility as a city.
