Boy, that whole section of town is shaping up nicely. If only someone could get that Engine House out of the hands of Azar (at a resonable price) and make it into a "Fire House Grill." I can see a great patio with those doors flung open. With that Auditorium, and Founders Brewing on the way, they are great anchors to support more development. Maybe the Horseshoe Bar is next? The Street looks great too!

That area is growing to be quite the interesting mix of atttractions; let me pontificate:
  • The Intersection = Everything from death/speed metal, to hip-hop, to mega 80's fans and everything in between.

  • Hopson Flats = college guys and girls looking to live and study (each other)

  • Founder's Brewing Company = Beer geeks, moped fans and wandering hippies

  • The Rapid/Greyhound = literally every facate of society

  • Peter Martin Wege Theater = artsy types, kids(performers) and parents that cart them around

And just think, Azzar got that building for like $160K in an auction. If only I had been a few years older when that auction took place [sigh].

The Grand Rapids School of the Ballet has had to cancel classes the past two evenings, due to roof leakage in the new auditorium, and gross mildew stench in the lobby. People are going around with their turtlenecks up over their noses, it's so bad. I understand the green roof of the building is a big part of the problem. Does anyone here have any definitive information?

After reading this I went to my sources and was told that the water issue is not in the new addition at all and all of the water damage is occurring in the existing building. There are a couple of ideas of what is happening, but the problem hasn't been found yet.

Dad- wanna move this thread to the building construction thread to keep things cleaned up?
