Definately New Orleans for me, and I say that with as little bias as possible. New Orleans' CBD offers some of the most interesting history and architecture in the country, some of the best restaurants in the world, some of the best nightlife in the country, a very big city atmosphere, the largest casino in the country outside of Las Vegas, one of the top aquariums in the world, an excellent streetcar and bus transportation system, and it doesn't hurt to have the Mighty Mississippi flowing right by.

As for second, I couldn't even begin to choose. I really like Charleston, Nashville, Houston, Atlanta, and of course Miami. I've never been to Savannah, but I have a feeling it will be high on my list once I make a trip to that city.

Greenville, home of romantic cafes, quaint boutique shops, charming parks, and street festivals galore. Hard to go wrong with this, plus the many, many other positives I've left unmentioned. This place is well worth the visit! :)

Fall For Greenville:

Here are a few samples of the fun you're missing out on, in case you haven't been yet:

You know, the more I hear and see of Greenville on the forum, the more I want to visit. I know it probably seems corny, but it seems like Greenville has a perfect mix of urbanity and nature, old and new, and big and small. Basically, a very nice mix of the "Old South" and the "New South." Hopefully I'll be able to swing in to Greenville for a day or two the next time I drive back down to New Orleans from Washington D.C., which may be next summer.

Besides my SC favorites (I'm biased), some that I've seen on here that I would love to visit and would instantly become my favorites are Chattanooga, Richmond, and Savannah. I've been through DT Jacksonville but didn't really have a chance to explore; what I've seen since has really impressed me. DT Norfolk strikes me as very immaculate (same with Jacksonville, I've visited but didn't explore), and has impressed me as well.

No single fave, but

Asheville, Athens, Charleston SC, Charleston WV, Savannah, St Augustine, Wilmington all have their charms...as do some smaller towns like Abingdon VA & Carrboro, Hillsborough & Waynesville NC (scenery around Waynesville is definitely spectacular - a very well-kept & compact old town of 10,000, at 2000 ft, with 6000+ ft ridges towering beyond the city limits)

I want to explore some of the down-east NC towns like Elizabeth City & New Bern on my next trip to the coast as well...
