urbanguy 0 Report post Posted September 3, 2006 Welcome to Molokai the "Friendly Isle" Here are some pics of the very rural island of Molokai in Hawaii. It's nickname is the "Friendly Isle" and from my own experiences it trully is. It has a population of around 7,000 with most of the people living in the town of Kaunakakai. On the other side of the island is an area called Kalaupapa which is where people were sent that had leprosy.

urbanguy 0 Report post Posted September 4, 2006 It's a great place to go, if you want to get away from it all! The people are also very friendly too so it makes for a great escape from the hustle and bustle of city life and to rejuvinate your spirit.

dgreco 1 Report post Posted December 19, 2006 I think you're referring to the light that is by the Fire Dept.? There are no traffic lights. They had movie theaters and KFC, but not sure if the KFC is still open. They also opened a pizza cafe back in the 90s. Haven't been back since 2003, so not sure of what other changes they have had, aside from more people moving there.
urbanguy 0 Report post Posted December 20, 2006 mamoahina, wow thats kind of cool actually. I hope that the island is able to stay rural because all the other islands are pricing people out and overdeveloping, well more like not developing effeciently. All these housing developments are consuming a lot of land because they are sprawling so much with little or no consideration for agriculture which the islands need or they will be doomed and monopolized if they have to depend on 100% imports. dgreco 1 Report post Posted December 20, 2006 ^ it is cool that the island is staying rural, I still think you need atleast 1 island oahu in this case to be the "city" of the state, because if it was all little farm towns, it would lose a lot of its atttraction for vacationers and people who want to start new lives. I think Oahu gives them a chance to start over or just start.
