1st Charlotte Film Festival

So I figured it was time for this to get its own thread. This film festival looks to actually be pretty big. I first just thought it would be some little pipe dream sort of thing but I was apparently wrong. I think I'll get the pass that's 50 bucks but gets you into all of the films. I'm realy looking foward to this. Films, Panels, Parties will all be coming Uptown. Perhaps this will show the city how important it is to have quality venues for films Uptown. Anyway, check out the website. I wish it was a little better. BUt the event looks to be pretty cool!

Definitely looks like a lot of fun. I had no idea about it until I saw the thread on here though. That happens to me a lot in this town. And I am not alone. There needs to be better promotions of events in general. The Novello Festival is coming soon and Amy Tan author of the bestselling "Joy Luck Club" and Jane and Michael Stern the roadside food critics and authors will be here among many other well known writers! But you hardly see any promotion of itbesides the obscure Novello website.

There is also the Cackalacky Film Festival coming in October. I remember seeing this promoted at the South End Festival back in May.

Some of the posters promoting this festival are hilarious.

They had several of these posters on display during the NoDa film festival. I saw them when I went and saw battle royale.

The movie "Little Chicago" sounds interesting:

The town of Gastonia, NC has a nickname, "Little Chicago", that comes from a shared history of crime and violence as well as an identical per capita murder rate.

Writer, producer and star Scott Miles grew up in Gastonia and turned his fascination with the town and its colorful history into a compelling, present day saga full of off-beat, quirky characters.

Whoa, now I have to get in on the confusion wagon. I thought the one I had posted was the Cackalacky. The Cackalacky is the big one. It was the one written up in Uptown magazine. Well, cool, we'll have two.

Here is the Cackalacky: http://www.cackalackyfilmfest.com/

Actually the Charlotte film festival has more films scheduled at the moment but that could change. There is a fundraising event for the Cackalacky this Thursday (info on the website). I'm just excited that we're finally having film festivals here!

Hi...I'm the director of the Cackalacky Film Festival...We are very excited about the festival - having a party tonight at Tavern on the Tracks to pump people up and unveil some scenes from about 20 or so of the films we have selected. Still finishing up the selection process and notifying filmmakers. Any questions you have...ask them of me...I'll stay tuned to the forum.

premium member... nice. will you guys be showing any movies made by NC filmakers? specifically the movie "foot fist way"....

We will be showcasing some North Carolin Films, Films made in North Carolina, and North Carolina Directors and Actors. But the one you mentioned isn't on the list.

I saw short clips at the Tavern on the Tracks last night from 20 of the films to be featured at the Cackalacky Film Festival. I am really excited about this film festival. Get ready to be entertained!

One party down...several more coming up. Also we are having a golf tournament on Sept 18th if anyone is interested in playing golf and supporting the festival.

Look for the poster ads in the September issue of Uptown Magazine and in the Charlotte Chamber of Commerces September Ventures Monthly publication. An article came out as well in the Constellation which covers Huntersville, Cornelius, Davidson, Mooresville areas. Future press and ads will occur in the Observer, Charlotte Weekly, Charlotte Health and Fitness Magazine and Creative Loafing.

We apparently are going to have a decent group of filmmakers coming in for their screenings and parties in October. More news to come soon!

This is just fantastic! I am very excited about these film fests coming to Charlotte. Duchess, are you targeting international movies? I really hope so .. Charlotte is definitely ready. I am just surprised that I haven't heard about this sooner? In any case, thanks appatone for posting!

Yes...we have received movies from Hungary, Iraq, Spain, Ireland, Japan, England, Germany, etc.. Next year our estimates are that we will receive over 1000 movies from all over the world to choose from! Needless to say I will need a lot of volunteers next year to be on the screening committees!

If you didn't read the August issue of Uptown magazine you can read about the festival online at www.uptownclt.com

Has anyone gone to any of the movies at the Film Festival this weekend? I just watched Encounter Point. Very moving documentry on the Israeli/Palistinean conflict that I would not have been able to see in Charlotte if it weren't for the film festival. I hope this returns next year.

Ha, I was at Encounter Point as well. Really good film. I also saw the dark shorts and also toured a bunch of the museums. I didn't realize the Levine Museum of the New South was so cool. Really a neat museum.

Also on another note...Charlotte was pretty busy downtown all day and then tonight (last night) as well. Really glad to see people getting out and about.

Here are the names of the films that will be shown at the Cackalacky Film Festival October 18-22. The schedule should be posted hopefully by tomorrow!! There are a number of these filmmakers that are coming into town for this! Street teams are going out this weekend to pass out flyers, postcards, etc.
