Vespa does have a dealership in Little Rock. I don't know how well it does though. I've seen some decent ones closer to $1,000. There are a number of them around Fayetteville, it probably helps that it's a college town. But since so many people live in other cities than where they work I suppose that would hinder things. So many people rely on I-540 to get around to work and such. As developments start opening more in Rogers I've wondered if more people might have more to do just in Rogers and might find one convenient. I think for people in Fayetteville they can be a convenience too.

You know, the "college town" thing didn't even cross my mind. It's funny, but these days I don't think of Fayetteville as a college town. I just lump NWA all in there together.

I can see it being useful in a college town, no doubt. I can't believe I didn't even think about the obvious!!

Missing: Jaguar, Land Rover, Lexus, Infiniti, Porsche, any others?

Give it time. Your metro is growing so fast, some things will be passed up initially... but eventually it should fall into place. My area has dealerships for all of the above, yet your area is wealthier than mine overall. No doubt dealerships carrying these brands will fall into your area sooner than later.

I'm sure you've mentioned it before but out of curiousity what's the population of your metro Brian?

I never thought I'd say this, but I don't know to be honest. I believe the MSA (Shreveport-Bossier) population as of 2000 was about 385,000 and the CSA (Shreveport-Bossier-Minden) was about 425,000? I could be wrong, and if so please correct me. I can't seem to recall exactly where to find these numbers within the Census site.

Wow, NWA's MSA is right around 400,000, were practically the same size.

Yep.

You guys have actually surpassed us.

Don't think that doesn't bother me. :P

Seriously, though, there's just SO MUCH going on in your area. Sure my area is growing, but it's mostly suburban growth while the inner-city continues to rot away (with the exception of the casino district.)

Since this thread is about gas prices in a way, just thought I'd mention that the new Sam's Club gas station on 102 in Rogers doesn't take cash. I may be missing something, but that's the first time my cash wasn't good enough, especially to buy gas. I guess there won't even be printed money in another decade or two.

I'm not sure if I've ever attempted to pay cash at a Sam's. Is there even an attendant? The one time I bought gas at Sam's, the stupid pump didn't want to read my Sam's card. After many attempts, I was finally able to get it done and I decided it just wasn't worth it. Sam's gas proved inconvenient for me, when I could go down the block to Wal-Mart and fuel up at Murphy USA for about the same price with no hassle.

The Sam's Club gas station there was a Neighborhood Market Murphy's, but they just changed it now that the Sam's Club is opening behind the Neighborhood Market. There is an attendant there, but he's just there to sign people up for a Sam's Card. I've never gotten gas at Sam's Club so they may be an exception, but I wonder if unmanned, no-cash gas stations will become more common.

Funny I thought we said it was in Bentonville. :D

Do you know when it opens? I haven't been on that part of 102 for a while.

The ones at the Sam's in Dallas near me are that way.

I used to buy my gas at Sam's all the time thinking I was getting a huge discount (and it seemed I was) until I noticed there was a QT across the street consistently 2 cents cheaper.

Now, motivated people can pick up the Wal-Mart gift cards in the stores and get a nickel off and that's a good deal. There isn't a WM within a reasonable drive of my part of Dallas, though, and they tend to be too hard to get in and out of to make it worth the trouble.

A lot of grocery stores offer reasonable gas. Albertson's and Tom Thumb do in Dallas and Kroger is competitive with Wal-Mart in Little Rock but with many more locations.

I keep saying it's in Rogers don't I? I guess I still keep thinking I-540 splits Rogers and Bentonville even when I know better. :D

I would guess another 2 weeks to a month. The parking lot is the only thing to work on it seems.

Yeah interesting that you have more dealerships but we're larger and have more big businesses too. But like you said it will just take some time for some of these things to happen.

I'm mad that we don't have any Neighborhood Market stores. I can name at least 5 areas around here that could benefit from one, including my own neighborhood. And I'm talking about areas that would be profitable, based on the lack of convenient grocery stores. Too bad Wal-Mart's demographers haven't seen it. Living in some of these areas and knowing how bad some of these people want a Wal-Mart presence in their areas, there is no doubt in my mind they'd do well.

Anyway... rant over. Back to the subject at hand... :)

I agree. Wal-Mart's are hard to get in and out of. WM's have several hundred customers an hour, which makes alleviating traffic and having proper parking tough. It's a challenge I face everyday at work.

If Kroger or Albertsons had stores up here, I would more than likely shop there, just to avoid the huge crowds, parking problems, and noise.

I've always done that at the same place. It's hard not to think that way. Part of is that when I was younger that area was rural and undeveloped.
