Downtown Statesville

Everyone passes through Statesville on 40 or 77, but how many actually check out downtown? Very well maintained, intact downtown with few boarded up structures. Never gave the city much thought before, but now have a better appreciation for it. I forgot to charge my battery, so these were taken with my older camera. Enjoy!

Thanks for the photos. Years ago, we actually had a discussion on this building here on UrbanPlanet. The discussion was about the clock in if it was original or added after the fact. The architectural styles don't match.

Great photos of Statesville! This thread should be moved to the general NC forum since it is outside of the Charlotte metro area.

^ Thought that myself, is Statesville really within Charlotte's sphere of influence nowadays? I have family from there, back 30 years ago, they certainly made no association with Charlotte then, though obviously I-77 would be a connecting point relevant today more so than then. I also have family from Salisbury, whose character seems still quite small townish, are either of these places really being influenced by Charlotte [yet]?

And the photo of the ClockWorld - is the tenant still selling/making clocks, or is this just preserved for antiquity?

Yeah, there is no way the clock on this was original. I should have zoomed in more on the tower, up close I is even more clear that it is not original.

I did consider placing this in the NC forum, but thought Charlotte was a better fit. I know others will disagree, but personally, I look at Statesville as being the northern bookend of the Charlotte region. Being only 10 miles north of Mooresville, I don't think it's a stretch.
