RVA News sponsors a Picture-of-the-Day feature, and here is an excellent one from today.

It's the Indian called Connecticut peering down the James River from his perch atop the Odell Building (once known as the Lucky Strike Power Plant) at the eastern end of Tobacco Row on East Cary at Pear Streets (If Pear were numbered, it would be 27th Street.)

Paul Hammond of Greater Jackson Ward News has snapped some photos of downtown Richmond's newest park. It is at the northeast corner of 7th and Jackson Streets on the Phillip Morris Research property.

You can also click on the link within Paul's story and see his pictures of the National Donors' Memorial Park behind the Unos Building at 3rd and Duval Streets. Unos is Headquarters of the National organ donation program.

The two parks are about 4 blocks from one another.

Ryan Ramsey at Richmond City Watch has his latest photo galleries posted, and what a treat!

The May Gallery is devoted to The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.

But the July Gallery is where you'll have the most puzzling and fun time. Though none of the sites is identified in print, there are photos of the incredible number of apartment projects in The Bottom as well as updates on the John Marshall and VCU's campuses (Medical and Academic) and a myriad of other locations.

Although I am unable to identify several of the pictures in Ryan's July Gallery, there is one that totally baffles me. If someone could identify it, I'd be very grateful.

It is the 6th picture on page 3 -- twin red-brick buildings (maybe cleverly disguised parking garages) 4/5 stories high on a tree lined-street with decorative street lamps.

Does anybody have any idea where and what it is?

Brent has advised that the photo about which I was inquiring (see above post) is of the new VCU Parking Decks on West Grace Street in the 400 and 500 blocks.

I thought those buildings were divided by Henry Street running between them.  It looks to me as if the two structures abut one another in Ryan's picture.

Well, obviously I don't know how to "edit" entries anymore.

On another viewing of the VCU decks I DO see the dividing street between them.

I tried to edit out the last line in the above post but kept getting a pop-up box reading "object error."

Lord knows, if anyone is going to miss the edit feature it is I, since I used to use it constantly.

Ryan Ramsey has added some photos to his JULY GALLERY beginning with Picture #8 on page 5 (dated 8/13/11) through the end on page 7.

The new pictures begin with The Carillon which is the World War I Memorial in Byrd Park.  At about 250 feet, it is by far the most beautiful tower in the city, IMO.

There are also several views of Richmond International Airport.

Check them out at:

http://www.richmondcitywatch.com

And if you haven't viewed the MAY GALLERY devoted entirely to the expansion of The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, you're missing a treasure.

Ryan Ramsey's November gallery of Richond pictures is up;

NOTE: Ryan includes lots of VCU Medical complex among this set of pix.

While the main hospital (the large tan building with VCU emblazoned on top) accepts just about all the local charity cases (shootings, muggings etc.)the top floor has luxury suites with its own gourmet kitchen. Rich patients can host cocktail and dinner parties in their suites.

Looking west along the Franklin Street corridor from about 2nd Street. The Jefferson Hotel is foreground left and the high rise apartments form a sort of canyon through midtown and VCU's Academic campus.

That's the spire of St. James Episcopal Church in the far distance about a block east of Stuart Circle and the beginning of Monument Avenue.

RVANews photo of the day - Jan. 11, 2012.

By the photo-artist named Clutchrobot.

This is the corner of the iconic Richmond Dairy Building in Jackson Ward. The entire complex extending from Jefferson to Madison on West Marshall Street is now residential.

From today's RVANews:

PS: There's another Milk Bottle turret on the Jefferson Street side of the building.
