Richmond in Pictures III

Here's a rather hazy aerial picture of Metro Richmond by MartinAir that is in today's RVANews:

Actually, that photo is pretty clear to me! I can clearly point out every skyscraper (and large buildings) in that picture. But then again, it's probably because my geeky self spends much time studying pictures of our skyline and driving through the city :whistling: .....

That's a rather neat picture more so than hazy. Just flew into Norfolk the other night from the midwest and easily spotted downtown Richmond in the dark as we were decending from the pattern of the bridges that cross the James

This photo from today's RVANews is by taberandrew and shows the last eastbound block of Monument Avenue before it narrows into West Franklin Street and the VCU campus. It's taken from Allen and Monument Avenues where the statue of General R. E. Lee sits astride Traveler.

There are additional pix of this area in taberandrew's photostream.

And after checking the rankings so far, Richmond is in 4th place!!! We're lagging behind Philadelphia's Geekadelphia listing by a mere FOUR people, 431 to 435. If 4 more people on Twitter follow Richmond's nomination, we could tie for 3rd, giving us the coveted Foursquare city badge!! :shades:

Richmond is one of five sharing the top spot among Foursquare badge cities.

If you want to enjoy a slew of Richmond photos you've probably never seen, hit all the highlighted links, including the last one titled Foursquare RVA List, in this Richmond dot com story:

Eric: I'm not exactly sure, either, of the significance of Foursquare but this story may clear it up somewhat.

Incidentally, if you go through all the pictures, a lot of them seem to be of cell-phone quality. In other words, not very good.

Thanks so much for your very kind comments, Oaktownwinz. I do love cities and I enjoy taking pictures, but sometimes I feel that I am all alone in the wilderness, so it feels great to know that someone sees my pictures and appreciates them. I am just sorry that I can't figure out how to link some of albums to this site.

By the way, do you live in Richmond? I love that city.

A photographer known as Smiziley took this wonderful aerial of Richmond looking east from high above the Far West End.

Note the lakes in Byrd Park. It's easy to see that Swan Lake (the one with the island) is the largest of the three. From left to right they are Fountain Lake, Swan Lake and Shields Lake.

EDIT: Plus another one I fished out of Google. Some of these stock photos are really neat and interesting. Others are downright pretty. :)

This is a collection of Flickr pictures from a number of sources that an acquaintance posted on another site.

They are mostly of recent vintage -- even including some of yesterday's Monument 10K.

There's a rare photo of a concert on the Byrd Theatre stage.

The collection certainly shows Richmond's grit, as well as its natural beauty, campy side and artistic strength.

See how many sites you can identify. But be warned -- there are hundreds of shots.

What are those large white squares (appear to be warehouses) near the center of the picture? Just to the northwest of the large green/park area.
